Avanza Influenza A.

The Ministry of Health of the Nation tonight confirmed three more deaths due to Influenza A (H1N1), which, added to the 18 already announced, total 21 persons killed by the flu in the country.

Moreover, the peak of influenza A in Argentina will occur "within two or three weeks," he said today the director of Infectious Diseases Children's Hospital Ricardo Gutierrez, Eduardo Lopez, who warned about "the ability to attack the disease.

Lopez said that "seasonal influenza is a risk of contagion from one case to another case, while in the new influenza A/H1N1 is one every two cases."

"The mortality that we have now is below the seasonal flu, however, due to the high capacity of spread of this virus, the ability of getting sick is higher, this is obvious. It is different from seasonal flu," he said the physician.

"The ability of this virus attack is 30 percent. It means that if one has the disease of this virus and has close contact with three people, one of them is going to pass, so this is very high , "added Lopez, told National Radio.

He also said that "the increase of cases is always much more efficient in winter than in summer because people are more together, because there is no ventilation, it allows the cold virus is spreading better and because there is low humidity, which The virus lives in different environments. "

"When the temperatures reach more temperate. The virus circulates with lower efficiency," said Lopez, who found that the peak of the disease in the country shall be filed "within two or three weeks."

The doctor also recommended to avoid travel on Argentina while increasing the number of people who contract influenza A, particularly in the Greater Buenos Aires μrea.

"Let us not forget the interior has low number of cases in most provinces, compared with the city of Buenos Aires and the suburbs," he said.

"Therefore, any action that may seem unfriendly, it is worth the penalty to be monitored (by the national authorities) to at least accept it or not to take it, but we must bear in mind these data because the peak, I believe, will be within two or three weeks, "said Lopez.

For its part, Alejandro Costa, director of Preventive Medicine of Buenos Aires Ministry of Health, urged the general public and members of risk groups in particular to implement the influenza vaccine, beyond that it is not effective for the new influenza A.

"The influenza vaccine with strains that today contains, is not covering against the influenza virus A H1N1, but if you're covering against the seasonal flu virus," noted Costa, told the same radio.

"Then those who have an indication of a flu shot, people over 65 years, those with chronic heart, lung, diabetes, and the kids that, for example, are between six months and 23 months in the province of Buenos Aires are the shots that were vaccinated and strengthen your immunity with respect to the seasonal virus ", he added.

The Ministers of Health and Social Security, Daniel Vincent, and Government, Education and Culture, Jorge Tobar, offered this afternoon a press conference in the Situation Room of Government House to report on steps being taken to the Pandemic influenza A H1N1.

They explained that the closure of schools or classrooms are an alternative to avoid contact of the rest of the students with a potential patient and stressed that "non-contagious." Therefore, confirmed that "the electoral process will develop normally" in all schools designated for the legislative elections of June 28.

The conference also attended by Undersecretary of Health, Curtin Gustavo, and the coordinators of epidemiology in the metropolitan area, Gustavo Sanguesa, and Zone 1, Facundo Goya.

Tobar said that "there are currently 14 establishments closed" as a prevention of influenza A in the province and the closure of a school or classroom is decided according to each case. "The root cause with the action taken by the health of people is because if a suspected case, following a recommendation from the Ministry of Health of the Nation
automatically available to the transient closure of schools, "he said.

He also announced that from now on, "what will be done from the government of the province is reducing the area of confinement against a suspected case and ask the Institute Malbrán as quickly as possible to give certainty and clarity to the case and prevent the virus spreading to the whole establishment in the shortest time possible. "

He stressed however that "non-contagious" and predicted that next Sunday, "the electoral process will develop normally even in establishments where the technology committee of the province ordered his temporary closure." Anyway, he explained, recommends some preventive measures for those involved in the election, such as washing hands regularly, to try to stay the least time in enclosed environments and cover the face when sneezing or coughing.

On speculation regarding the possibility of anticipating the winter recess in schools, that "the dynamics of influenza is difficult to make today regarding the next week" and noted that the official website of the Ministry of Health will remain updated daily on the steps being taken. He stated that the virus is circulating in the province "and noted that this is important information, clearly and precisely to avoid situations of alarm and concern in the population."

Reported that, today, in the province of Neuquén, there are 11 confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza, analyzed by the Institute Malbrán, and it is important to note that 9 of these 11 have been treated, cured and have been discharged " . He added that "the two remaining cases are being treated" and none of the patients showed a pattern of serious or required hospitalization. Of these 11 positive cases of influenza A, four were children of school age.

"It is important to note that 30 cases were dismissed and discharged from the hospital and there are 60 suspected cases awaiting results at the Institute Malbrán and function of this will be the measures to be implemented," he said.

Discussed further measures at national level

For his part, Vincent said that, given the extent of the disease, Neuquén "have joined the contribution of two epidemiologists from the province who work in the secretary of Health" and "is currently underway in Buenos Aires in an area that is COFESA, the Federal Health Council, a meeting with the minister (Graciela) Ocaña which is analyzing the situation, "which will result in further action. Indicated that participating in the meeting on behalf of the director general of Neuquén Statistics and Epidemiology, Adriana Feltria.

Also raised that "we have heard many comments about whether a school is closed, if a class is closed," and it is essential to clarify that "these are virus particles that are unable to live alone and outdoor living is by a very few minutes. "

Remarked that "the flu is not contagious by buildings, or classrooms, or tables, but the contagion is person to person by respiratory secretions and that each person can remove."

He emphasized that influenza A is a highly contagious disease that is favored by conglomerates human "and to ensure the hygiene of buildings is sufficient to measures of normal cleaning with soap and water.

On the alternate days ago that was managed to analyze samples from suspected cases in Neuquén, explained that "since COFESA we were informed that the analysis of H1N1 influenza were to diversify from Malbrán e iban a mounting regional laboratories in the provinces Argentina is about 19 laboratories and the first thing would be initiated would be in the city of Neuquén. He noted that "even gave a date for the specialists and owners of the laboratory there to receive the information, technology and others, but apparently this idea has been discarded, and even surprised us."

He commented that the argument for changing the national strategy was "the Institute Malbrán increased 100 percent all the equipment for testing." Therefore, he added, now the results are obtained in about 72 hours.

Sanguesa reported that in recent days was "a high percentage of samples that are positive, it is expected a significant growth in the number of cases in the coming weeks and the onset of infection within the territory of Neuquen. Indicated that there is speculation that the pandemic is developed in Neuquén similarly to how it is spread in Buenos Aires.

Curtin pointed to the sharp variations in the number of positive cases in Neuquén and confirmed that "the province's decision is not going to hide absolutely no information on how many cases there is neither confirmed nor study." According to, sudden changes in the number of confirmed cases are due to the Institute Malbrán working with the samples according to their own priorities.

He also announced that contacts were made with the authorities of the Faculty of Medicine of the Comahue National University and the School of Nursing for students who wish to assist the guards in the containment of the people, "along with the professionals health.

Currently, nine completed treatment and two are on treatment. No cases are currently in placement or serious complications occurred.

A total of 60 samples from suspected cases are being diagnosed at the Institute Malbrán in the City of Buenos Aires.

Among the actions taken to date are:

1. Detection and treatment of cases and their contacts with relatives.
2. Recommendation for general prevention and hygiene of the population.

In addition, the Posadas created through Resolution No. 640/09 an Internal Crisis Committee itself, with the aim of ensuring compliance and monitoring of the actions that the hospital must develop to deal with the situation posed by an outbreak of Influenza A .

Meanwhile, health authorities in Buenos Aires and Buenos Aires have some alternatives to strengthen the system, including the use of military hospital in Campo de Mayo, the release of bed in the hospital's intensive care Malvinas Argentinas, the installation of sanitary units in campaign Buenos Aires and mobile primary care close to railway stations and Eleven Constitution.

Health Minister bonaerense, Claudio Zin, today announced that from next week will reach the country from 1000 test kits which will make in 10 minutes if a patient has influenza A.

Bonaerense The official stressed that this tool will expedite the diagnoses of those who reach the hospital and in the case of a positive response to treatment started quickly against the H1N1 virus.

Zin said this thousand-tests-produced in Korea will be renewed each week and added: "Do not buy before because they went on sale a week ago."

At the same time, Health Minister of the Province on Radio 10 downplayed the need to declare a national emergency "so as not to scare people," while recalling that "people are warned and know you have to avoid contact with people affected. "

"Declararlo emergencia nacional no significa que se cierren escuelas, shoppings o subtes. Lo que hace es permitirle al funcionario actuar mucho más rápido. Es una cuestión burocrática. Nos daría una respuesta mucho mas rápida a la gente", aclaró el funcionario.
"I declare a national emergency does not mean the closure of schools, malls or subway. What it does is allow the officer to act much faster. It is a bureaucratic issue. We would respond more quickly to the people," said the official.

"No es mucha gente 1500 personas en dos meses, hay una demanda doble del sistema, el 80% de las consultas son resfriados comunes", explicó Zin, para llevar tranquilidad a la sociedad.
"Not many people in 1500 two months, a double application of the system, 80% of queries are common colds," said Zin, to bring peace to society.
" La caracteristica particular del virus es que convierte a gente que por lo general no tiene factores de riesgo en personas que sí , por ejemplo mujeres embarazadas. Para las mujeres que esperan un hijo este es un virus con riesgo de vida. Y no sabemos por qué, nadie en el mundo lo sabe ", explicó el doctor.
"The special characteristic of the virus is turning people who usually do not have risk factors in people, eg pregnant women. For women who are expecting a child this is a life-threatening virus. And we know from what, no one in the world knows, "said the doctor.

This is why in the province of Buenos Aires Hospital Malvinas Argentinas used to address only cases of respiratory problems.
" Nunca soñamos con disponer de un edificio para una sola patología ", pero la cantidad de casos lo requiere, sostuvo Zin.
"I never dreamed to have a building to a single disease, but the number of cases warrants it, said Zin.

He also explained that "only 42% of people are vaccinated against the flu. Even the health care uses, because you do not want to do, not because they lack the supplies."

In the same context and the call for people who will vote tomorrow, the minister recommended Zin "keep a reasonable distance of two meters to avoid disease."

The official explained that "the virus in the paper ballots takes five minutes, with much luck," but warned that "if I touch the table, it lasts longer."
In that respect individual and recommended measures to "clean lavandin with a couple of times during the election the darkroom or the contact surface."
In addition, the head of the health bonaerense recommended for those with colds or flu box "if they use the chinstrap to the street, in an act of corporate social responsibility."

There are almost 4 times as many cases in neighboring Chile without the fatality rate. Is there a logical explanation for this? Is there a reason why Argentina would be more susceptible?

A woman died in Mar del Plata by influenza A and are already 27 fatal cases in the country

It is the first recorded victim in the town. Pending the outcome of 250 swabs in the Institute Malbrán, the government is studying the possibility of declaring the emergency health next week

The victim was confined for over a week at the Regional Hospital Interzonal marplatense.

The owner of Zona Sanitaria VIII, Gustavo Rodriguez, said that "the landscape in the river plate with respect to the Influenza A pandemic is compounded by the passage of days."

"On Guard Hospital Materno Infantil came to serve 700 kids a day in the Acute Hospital Interzonal created a crisis committee and provided a special clinic at the hospital guards," he said.

From the municipality of General Pueyrredón agreed to use the facilities of the GADA 601 to isolate those people with low incomes or living on the street, because the virus is reaching the poorest strata of society.

"Unfortunately most of the fatal cases were associated diseases," said Rodriguez.

For its part, Alejandro Ferro, secretary of health in the municipality of General Pueyrredón, said: "The dead woman was not healthy because it had some disease and had entered the base hospital for over a week."

"Studies conducted prior to the victim indicated that she was admitted for diffuse, disseminated infection, with a picture compatible with acute cepsis, which is a generalized infection," the health professional.

Ferro noted that "the majority of deaths are from diseases associated with", while added: "Today, in our city there are 27 confirmed cases of influenza A and 250 more awaiting the results of the swabs in the Institute Malbrán.

"Given the polls tomorrow, we are recommending to people through different media, that when you go to vote make the tail out in the open or distance between a person not less than a meter" he said.

"For the fiscal authorities and table, we recommend using chinstrap with permanent hand washing or using alcohol gel," he added.

The River Plate is declared as a zone of risk, since it is an area with high virus spread by its own characteristics, "Ferro explained and appealed" not to panic. "

Health emergency
Health Minister bonaerense, Claudio Zin, said today that any statement of health emergency by the influenza A does not automatically mean the restriction to public spaces and activities.

The official described the measure as "a framework to make quick decisions," while implying that out "everything is closed."

Zin revealed that the declaration of health emergency will be evaluated next week by the national government, while the 26 are already dead and 1,600 people affected by the pandemic, according to the Ministry of Health of the Nation delivered yesterday the evolution of enfermerdad in the country.

To the minister, "we must not exaggerate" the health situation, although it denied its seriousness. The official denied that the state emergebncia health involves the closure of schools, shopping centers or subway, "and that instead, a decree of that nature, would allow officials to act quickly, because there is" a framework ".

Zin said that medical services and health "are prepared to control and to respond" to the peak of cases that could occur in the next 15 days.

Medical Emergency in Buenos AiresRaises Pandemic Concerns

June 27, 2009

Some hospitals began to strengthen measures, including the case of Posadas Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in the province of Buenos Aires that concentrates a large number of internees from the flu. Through a press release, the hospital reported that it declared a state of emergency by the Institution that "all staff will be available to the agency needs to be addressed" after the epidemic of influenza A.

The above translation describes the declaration of a medical emergency in Buenos Aires. The Buenos Aires Ministry of Health website lists 15 confirmed fatalities, 180 confirmed cases, and 559 suspect cases as of Friday (see Buenos Aires map), but media reports suggest the actual number of cases is higher. Recent reports out of Argentina also described the rapid decline of relative young patients (15-50), with descriptions similar to those used to describe dying patients in 1918. In addition, there has been an outbreak of H1N1 at a pig farm northwest of Buenos Aires (see map).

The sudden jump in cases and fatalities are cause for concern. In the country the number of confirmed fatal cases rose to 27, but there are reports of 15 more fatalities that are suspect. There have also been reports of travelers from Argentina testing positive at airport checks in multiple countries. These travelers should provide multiple samples for sequencing studies to determine if there have been changes in the virus.

Recently PB2 E627K was reported in a traveler from the United States. However, the sequence suggested the change was acquired in China. Although the E627K was present in the original samples and confirmed in the initial clone, and subsequent sub-clone had reverted back to the wild type sequence, raising concerns that some key changes may not be stable under certain culture conditions, and important changes could be lost especially if the virus is cultured in chicken eggs, which could select against important changes associated with adaptation to human hosts.

Therefore, analysis by multiple labs of these sequences would be useful. The flu season is just beginning in the southern hemisphere, providing a favorable environment for rapid adaptive changes. The movement of a swine H1N1 into a human host parallels the 1918 pandemic, which also was associated with mild infections in the later spring, followed by a much more virulent and lethal H1N1 in the fall.

The rapid developments in Buenos Aires bear close scrutiny and active sequence analysis as H1N1 increases its gene pool transmitting through human hosts. Many countries worldwide, including those in the southern hemisphere are experiencing explosive growth, and the developments in Buenos Aires may signal a new wave of Pandemic H1N1.

.

Swine flu outbreak worsens in Argentina

Buenos Aires, June 28 (EFE) Health officials in Argentina said Saturday the government may declare a state of emergency as the influenza A(H1N1) virus, also called swine flu, is spreading alarmingly in the country.
Till date, 26 people have died and more than 1,500 people have been infected by the deadly virus in the country.
“The emergency does not mean we’re closing everything down. The emergency is a frame of reference for having medicines ready for direct purchase and mobilising health personnel,” Health Minister Claudio Zin said.
A national emergency may be declared next week, the minister said.
Health organisations said the number of swine flu cases is higher than the official figure in the country and hospitals have been unable to deal with the situation.
On Friday, 99 new cases have been tested positive for swine flu, raising the total to 1,587.
