    So far in 2012, the mortality from acute respiratory disease (ARD) in children of the city has increased by 30% over the previous year. Surveillance systems in Public Health reported to date 32 children victims of ERA compared with 23 who had reported the previous year.
    The inpatient pediatric services and intensive care units have reported a steady increase in demand for Acute Respiratory Infections, reaching critical levels in the supply of these services, which severely affect the timeliness and effectiveness of care for children in Bogota .
    Influenza viruses A and B, the Respiratory Syncytial are largely responsible for this increase.
