    Mpox: Brazil records 945 cases since the beginning of the year and surpasses the 2023 mark

    On Tuesday (3), the Ministry of Health released the weekly report on mpox cases in Brazil. Since the beginning of the year, 945 confirmed or probable cases of the disease have been recorded, surpassing the 853 cases last year.

    According to the bulletin, 109 new confirmed or probable cases were reported last week alone. The Southeast region is the most affected, with 763 cases, which represents 80.7% of the total in the country.

    The states with the highest number of confirmed or probable cases are:

    São Paulo: 487 cases (51.5%)
    Rio de Janeiro: 216 cases (22.9%)
    Minas Gerais: 52 cases (5.5%)
    Bahia: 39 cases (4.1%)

    The bulletin also reports that no cases were recorded in three states: Amapá, Tocantins and Piauí.

    The cities with the highest number of confirmed or probable cases are:

    São Paulo: 343 cases (36.3%)
    Rio de Janeiro: 160 cases (16.9%)
    Belo Horizonte: 43 cases (4.6%)
    Salvador: 28 cases (3.0%)
    Brasília: 20 cases (2.1%)

    So far, there have been no deaths from mpox this year. In 2023, two deaths were recorded, one in Minas Gerais and the other in Pará. In 2022, there were 14 deaths, with five occurring in Rio de Janeiro, three in São Paulo, three in Minas Gerais and one in each of the states of Maranhão, Mato Grosso and Santa Catarina...​

    Mpox Clade 1b Arrives in Sao Paulo

    The Ministry of Health for the State of São Paulo recently confirmed its first patient infected with Mpox Clade 1b. The infection was confirmed in early March 2025 in an adult woman in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo.

    According to the media statement of March 10, 2025, she is expected to be discharged next week.

    The patient had not traveled to outbreak areas in Africa but had contact with individuals from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the virus is endemic.​..
