LA PAZ, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Bolivian Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Departmental Health Services (Headquarters), reported that epidemiological surveillance is being maintained due to the rise in cases of monkeypox in the country.
The statistical technician of the Epidemiology Directorate of the Ministry of Health and Sports, Marco Antonio Rocha, told Xinhua on Wednesday that a registry is being carried out in the country to detect more infections, based on the information provided by the people who gave positive for the disease.
The Bolivian government declared an epidemiological alert last May and presented a protocol that is applied by the Headquarters in the nine departments of the country in the event of any suspicious case.
Bolivia registered the first case of monkeypox on August 1 and to date has registered 78 active cases, to which is added a recovered patient, for an average of 2.5 daily infections.
The Bolivian departments that have reported positive cases of monkeypox are: Santa Cruz (east) with 67, La Paz (west) with six, Cochabamba (center) with five, and Potosí (southwest) with one.
