Brazil records 76 cases of monkeypox in seven states
        Jacobina News 3.7.22

The Ministry of Health reported that, until this Sunday (3/7), 76 cases of monkeypox - monkeypox - were confirmed in Brazil. In all, seven states reported the infection: one in the Federal District, one in Rio Grande do Norte, two in Minas Gerais, two in Rio Grande do Sul, two in Ceará, 16 in Rio de Janeiro and 52 in São Paulo.

The ministry also stated that it continues to liaise directly with the states, through the Situation Room and the National CIEVS, to monitor cases and track people who have had contact with patients. States such as Amazonas, Bahia and Santa Catarina are investigating suspected cases.

Monkeypox was first diagnosed in humans in 1970 and, according to the profile of infected patients today (mostly gay or bisexual men), it is probably transmitted through unprotected sex, in addition to contact with injuries to sick people or droplets released during breathing.

The first symptoms are fever, headache, body and back pain, swollen lymph nodes, exhaustion, chills and blisters that appear all over the body (especially face, hands and feet) and evolve, forming crusts, until they fall off.

The most updated balance sheet from the Ministry of Health points out that the number of known cases of monkeypox, also called monkeypox, has reached 266. The states of Bahia and Pernambuco recorded their first cases of the disease, but they are not yet accounted for in the official cases, as only at the end of the day does the folder gather data from the state health secretariats.

The case of Bahia was confirmed today by the State Health Department and the patient is isolated. The case of Pernambuco was confirmed yesterday and it is a man, 25 years old, who actually lives in Guarulhos, in São Paulo, but has been in the northeastern state since the 23rd. Among the confirmed cases, 196 are from the state from São Paulo, 37 from Rio de Janeiro, 18 from Minas Gerais, three from Paraná, three from Rio Grande do Sul, three from Ceará, three from Rio Grande do Norte, two from Goiás and one from the Federal District.

In a note, the Ministry stated that “Through the Situation Room and National CIEVS, it continues to liaise directly with the states to monitor cases and trace patient contacts”. Despite this, this week the emergency group to treat the disease in Brazil was dissolved, after lasting 50 days. The committee's objective was to “elaborate technical documents to promote public health actions” and prevent the spread of the viral disease in the country. Also according to the latest report from the folder, there are 116 suspected cases that are being analyzed. According to the WHO (World Health Organization), about 3,000 new cases have been confirmed in recent days, totaling more than 9,000.

Monkeypox: number of cases rises 31.8% in one day and Brazil reaches 592 infected
                              Melissa Duarte
                              Wed, July 20, 2022 3:33 PM

The number of confirmed cases of monkeypox (or monkeypox) in Brazil rose to 592, according to data from the Ministry of Health compiled until this Wednesday. The amount jumped 31.8% compared to the previous day, which had 449 infected with the disease. The total number of suspected cases rose from 75 to 134 in the same period.

Most diagnoses are concentrated in the Southeast region, with emphasis on São Paulo: alone, the state has 429 patients, equivalent to 72.4% of the total. Then, Rio de Janeiro has 85 infections and Minas Gerais, 32.

Only the North Region does not register cases of monkeypox in Brazil so far. Another six states — Alagoas, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Paraíba, Piauí and Sergipe — also did not confirm infections. The folder has already ruled out 299 possible cases.

Among the main symptoms, the paste warns of the sudden onset of fever, adenomegaly — swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck — and an acute rash. According to the folder, the spread occurs through closer contact with infected people, not being of rapid transmission.

The guideline is to isolate suspected and confirmed cases of the disease, as well as monitor the people with whom the infected had contact. Health professionals need to communicate possible cases to local and state Health Departments, in addition to the ministry, as the disease is compulsory to report.

Contrary to other countries, Brazil has not yet guaranteed vaccines to prevent monkeypox. Possible purchases are under negotiation. The Butantan Institute, in turn, is evaluating the manufacture of the immunizing agent.

Outbreaks can be controlled by medication. However, O GLOBO showed that the country also does not have medicines against the disease available — the last approval granted by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) expired in 2010.
