Rare worm found at home in MG can cause mental confusion if ingested by children
Expert believes that the animal arrived in the urban area of Pedro Leopoldo through travelers who came from outside the country

The rare and toxic worm found in Pedro Leopoldo , in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, can cause headaches and mental confusion if ingested by children, said biologist Fernanda Raggi. The "hammerhead" worm was found in the backyard of a family living in the city of Greater BH.
The biologist explained that the worm eliminates native earthworms, puts crops at risk and represents a danger to animals and humans. According to the expert, the worm releases a neurotoxic substance that can cause disorientation in animals that ingest it.
The animal, which can be confused with an earthworm, is, in fact, a flatworm, characterized by its ability to regenerate. This means that if he suffers any type of cut, he can regenerate. Residents reported that when they broke the hammer head in half, the worm continued to move. Biologist advises residents to put salt on the worm.
