    EPIDEMIOLOGICAL COMMENTS
    On May 5th, the Official Service was notified of the death of four female South-American coatis in the Natural Reserve in the department of Flores
    . The Official Service went on site and performed a rapid test on one of the dead animals, which was positive. Samples were sent to the Official Laboratory (anal, tracheal, oropharyngeal and ocular swabs), the samples were tested by real-time PCR and were positive for H5. During the week, 12 more animals died and were buried and disinfection was performed. Samples for the sequencing of avian influenza virus genomes were sent to the Evolutionary Genetics Section of the Faculty of Sciences.
