    Epidemiology
Source of the outbreak(s) or origin of infection
    • Unknown or inconclusive
Epidemiological comments The finding occurred in a backyard, located within the perifocal area of the 2nd outbreak (El Mel?n). The owner runs a small business specialized in land preparation, excavation and earth-moving works, and load operations and water transport. His equipment is stored within the premises where the positive birds are. The business has been operating in the Las Palmas farm (outbreak 1) since the beginning of the event, and then operated within the area of El Mel?n (outbreak 2). This business represents a strong epidemiological link between both primary outbreaks. Following the new detection, the affected premises were put under quarantine and additional samples were taken from birds. Furthermore, the Farming and Agricultural Service (SAG) decided to pre-emptively destroy the whole bird population in this farm and adjacent farms. To date, the sampling of backyard birds from all farms within the area resulted negative.
