one of my absolutely favorite books. unfortunately, a puppy ate my copy just before we moved north. I really need to replace it.
I'm glad you shared that book idea, Denise. Ive had a lot of sucess with the biodynamic spacing, and the charts of production, how much to plant per person, etc are really invaluable, especially to new gardeners and those not used to growing their own. If you need to produce a lot in little room, and minimize the work and resource input- this method is the best IMHO.
Jeavons other books are also supposed to be real good, I havent had the chance to get them (on my "someday" list). Square Foot Gardening by Barthalomew is good too, especially for beginners, both intensive methods really help increase output. I'll never garden in rows again, since ive used these methods.
Seed to Seed by Ashworth is great- teaches you have to save your own seed crops for just about everything. Great reference book. If theres a SHTF situation, and you really do have to produce a subsistence garden, these books will be priceless references.
How to Grow Your Own Vegetable Varieties by Carol Deppe is another great book to have, if you like playing around in the garden and want to try to breed varieties with unique or speical properties, or just thoes best suited to your own conditions/methods. Another one I'd highly recommend. Ive learned a lot from it. My fantasy is to breed purple and/or yellow snap peas- I'm gonna try this spring.
Amazon has used books, and ebay is another great way to get these or similar reference books without paying an arm and a leg for them....

It's good to hear of your success with both concepts.
I'm just glad to know that I can feed myself by digging up only 1/10 acre rather than far more. That's only 4 plots of 5X50' - not bad.
I like their info on exactly how many square feet of something I need to get X pounds of food. I'm going to be growing a lot of berries......my favorite food.
