Please realize that this information is dated! Information, especially on things like food preservation should be taken from up to date contemporary sources subject to review and approval of government agencies entrusted with ensuring that preservation techniques and the foods produced using them are safe. This information is presented to help provide a historical perspective on life and technology available in the 1800's and early 1900's (prior to and during the 1918 pandemic) specially in more rural or remote areas. There are antidotal accounts of wagon trains were still crossing the country in the early 1900's. The medical information I read in the manual is barbaric and I wonder how many people died from that advice? - AC
