Marcie and David Lynn, travelling on yacht Nine of Cups, were to be the last yacht to be able to visit the island until the embargo was lifted, as they were already present when the 'borders' were previously closed to all. They were present at the emergency meeting of the local population, which voted to disbar all incoming traffic until the emergency was over. this disbarment has been changed to 'restricted with conditions' - please see advice from Pitcairn at the end of this article.

The islanders said they were acting on the WHO statement that raised the level of the world wide alert to level 5. Nine of Cups had been told that once they leave the island they would not be allowed to return until the island was re-opened for traffic.

Pitcairn briefly closes border over swine flu outbreak

Posted at 01:36 on 05 May, 2009 UTC
Visitors to Pitcairn Island must now undergo a health check because of the world-wide swine flu outbreak.
Officials closed its borders on May the 2nd, but reopened them hours later while demanding that visitors pass a health check.
Calling ships have only to produce a regular port health certificate upon arrival at the island.
The California-based Pitcairn Islands Study Centre director, Herbert Ford, says on Pitcairn, the consequences of an influenza outbreak are potentially more serious than elsewhere because of its residents? isolation from the rest of the world.

      Pitcairn, for the move.

It would be realy ironic and grave, if the isle concealed well by Christian Fletcher in the past times, now be exposed to the flu by an traveler.

And thanks to dec. Marlon Brando for the extraordinary acting in the "Bounty" movie.
