The ministry of Health pandemic influenza technical group is currently assessing the country?s state of preparedness to counter the second wave of H1N1 virus that hit Australia and New Zealand.
The group met last week to touch up on the progress of how prepared the ministry of Health is in light of the second wave of H1N1.
Surges have also been reported with our Pacific neighbors Samoa and New Caledonia.
Ministry of Health spokesperson Peni Namotu says, developed nations are now seeing a reduction in this second wave.
Namotu says there was a drop in the number of influenza reported to the local public health system compared to the same period four years ago.
Other issues of preparedness that the TWG discussed were the progress of vaccination for the Pandemic H1N1 that is supported by the Australian Government.
All Ministry of health clinicians were alerted to the situation a month ago prompted by the WHO alert for the South Pacific.
