Health officials on full alert
HEALTH officials in the Northern Division are prepared for any possible outbreak of diseases after floods struck there twice in a month, says Doctor Ami Chand.
"We have enough manpower, funds and drugs to tackle any disease outbreak,"said Dr Chand, the divisional health officer.
"Since last month the health team has continued with groundwork, following up with communities on awareness programs."
He said if his department would need further help, a request would be forwarded to higher authority.
"But, at this stage, we are all geared up and will manage to keep things under control if we experience an outbreak."
Dr Chand said the second flood had forced health teams to re-strengthen and reorganise its initial plans on combating possible disease outbreak.
Northern Community Health Service general manager Sister Selina Waqa said it was important for the team to reorganise their schedule in communities as the second flood could mean a higher risk of an outbreak.
"The same areas affected in last month's flood were hit again this time and that is why we are specifically concentrating on these areas,"she said.
