      • AAHL has isolated a LPNAI virus from affected ducks and on the basis of HA and NA sequences for molecular sub-typing confirmed the outbreak virus to be H5N3 LPAI virus.
      • Blast analysis of the HA gene sequence confirmed highest sequence identity to H5 avian influenza viruses, including LPAI viruses previously isolated from Australian wild ducks.
      • No further cases of LPAI have been detected. Further surveillance is continuing.
      • Notes by the OIE Animal Health Information Department:
        • Since this is the first time that LPAI is identified in poultry in the history of the country, the reason for notification as first occurrence applies to the country but the event is in fact circumscribed to a small area as shown on the map.
        • H5 and H7 avian influenza in its low pathogenic form in poultry is a notifiable disease as per Chapter 10.4. on avian influenza of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code (2011).
