    PUTRAJAYA, Jan 1 ? A 55-year-old man was confirmed positive for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection after returning home from his umrah pilgrimage, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
    He said the man who hails from Selangor had symptoms of fever, cough, lethargy and aching feet as soon as he arrived home on December 23.

    The man received treatment for flu at a nearby clinic a day after arriving home and was warded when he sought treatment at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang on Dec 28, he added.
    ?Taking into account that the man was just back from performing umrah, a MERS-CoV screening was conducted on the patient at Sungai Buloh Hospital on Dec 30 which was confirmed positive by the Medical Research Institute on December 31,? he said in a statement here today...

    DEVELOPED MIDDLE EAST RESPIRATORY SYNDROME CORONAVIRUS
    (MERS-CoV) REDUCING SERVICES FROM THE UMRAH

    Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) wishes to inform one (1) case
    who is confirmed to be infected with MERS-CoV involving a Malay citizen
    Malaysia 55 years old, is from Selangor.


    The findings found him
    just returned to Malaysia from working umrah and arriving in Malaysia at 23
    December 2017. On December 24, 2017, he had symptoms of fever, cough,
    weak, tired and sore feet. Patients get treatment from the clinic
    near his home, where he had been treated as a
    case of fever. On the night of December 28, 2017, he next came to
    Tengku Ampu
    an Rahimah Hospital's Emergency Department (HTAR), Klang and her
    have been admitted to the HTAR ward for examination and treatment
    further.
    Take note of her recent travel history from discharge
    umrah, the MERS-CoV screening test was carried out and it was positive, each
    for screening tests conducted by Sungai Buloh Hospital at 30
    December 2017 as well as subsequent verification tests conducted by the Institute
    Medical Research (IMR) on 31 December 2017. At this point, the patient
    were in stable condition and were referred to Sungai Buloh Hospital
    to receive further treatment.

    The patient has informed that the current

    MOH is in the process of preventing and controlling activities, including detection
    as well as monitoring on close contact to patients like experts

    patient. Prevention and control of infections among health workers
    has been upgraded at all levels in addition to monitoring status
    the health of health personnel involved in dealing with related cases.

    from time to time.
    Refers to reports from the WHO, to date the cause of the infection
    the actual and the way the infection for MERS-CoV's disease is still inadequate
    identified. However, activities such as touching animals, especially camels, eat up

    MERS-CoV infection. The WHO also pointed out, at the moment the stage

    MOH wishes to emphasize health advice to the public

    countries in the Middle East region who are currently reporting infections

     During the visit, always practice the level of personal hygiene
    high as often as hand washing with water and
    soap or hand sanitizer, especially after
    cough, sneeze or after shaking;
     During the visit, always carry with the mouthpiece
    and nose and hand sanitizer for
    used when needed;
     During the visit, avoid visiting a home or
    healthcare institutions involved in the occurrence of epidemic infections
    MERS-CoV in that country;
     Avoid visiting to animal farms or touching any kind
    animals, especially camels;
     Avoid taking (ie eating or drinking) any product
    raw / not cooked perfectly involving camels; such as
    milk, meat, urine and its products.
     Those returning from visits to participating countries, in particular
    countries in the Middle East region are advised to obtain
    immediate treatment, in the event of a symptom of fever and
    respiratory infections (such as cough and difficulty breathing), in particular
    within 14 days after arriving in Malaysia. They need to inform
    about the history of their trip to the treating physician.
    The cooperation of the travel agency in particular that manages the congregation
    umrah / pilgrims are asked to reinforce awareness of the incident
    MERS-CoV infection through continuous information dissemination to the

      41 People Suspected Of MERS Infection Under Surveillance By Health Ministry

      Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said 70 people comprising of family members, relatives, friends, fellow pilgrims during the umrah trip, and medical personnel who had handled the patient, were initially detected and screened for the disease.

      "Sixty-one from the 70 people were discovered to have no symptoms, while nine of them presented light symptoms such as fever and have since been admitted at the isolation ward.

      "Results for the nine people when tested for MERS-CoV turned out to be negative and have since been cleared and discharged," he told reporters during a press conference at the ministry, here today.

      20 of the people were released immediately after screening.

      The remaining 41 people, he said, will be place under home surveillance for two weeks from the last day they had contact with the 55-year-old patient.

      "They will be visited or contacted by medical personnel from time to time in an effort to monitor their current health status," he said.

      The MERS-CoV patient is presently in stable condition at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

      Subsequently, Dr Subramaniam advised pilgrims, heading to perform their umrah in Saudi Arabia, to not visit camel farms as well as consuming either camel's milk or meat.
