DEVELOPED MIDDLE EAST RESPIRATORY SYNDROME CORONAVIRUS
(MERS-CoV) REDUCING SERVICES FROM THE UMRAH

Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) wishes to inform one (1) case
who is confirmed to be infected with MERS-CoV involving a Malay citizen
Malaysia 55 years old, is from Selangor.

The findings found him
just returned to Malaysia from working umrah and arriving in Malaysia at 23
December 2017. On December 24, 2017, he had symptoms of fever, cough,
weak, tired and sore feet. Patients get treatment from the clinic
near his home, where he had been treated as a
case of fever. On the night of December 28, 2017, he next came to
Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital's Emergency Department (HTAR), Klang and her
have been admitted to the HTAR ward for examination and treatment

milk, meat, urine and its products.
 Those returning from visits to participating countries, in particular
countries in the Middle East region are advised to obtain
immediate treatment, in the event of a symptom of fever and
respiratory infections (such as cough and difficulty breathing), in particular
within 14 days after arriving in Malaysia. They need to inform
about the history of their trip to the treating physician.
The cooperation of the travel agency in particular that manages the congregation
umrah / pilgrims are asked to reinforce awareness of the incident

41 People Suspected Of MERS Infection Under Surveillance By Health Ministry

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said 70 people comprising of family members, relatives, friends, fellow pilgrims during the umrah trip, and medical personnel who had handled the patient, were initially detected and screened for the disease.

"Sixty-one from the 70 people were discovered to have no symptoms, while nine of them presented light symptoms such as fever and have since been admitted at the isolation ward.

"Results for the nine people when tested for MERS-CoV turned out to be negative and have since been cleared and discharged," he told reporters during a press conference at the ministry, here today.

20 of the people were released immediately after screening.

The remaining 41 people, he said, will be place under home surveillance for two weeks from the last day they had contact with the 55-year-old patient.

"They will be visited or contacted by medical personnel from time to time in an effort to monitor their current health status," he said.

The MERS-CoV patient is presently in stable condition at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Subsequently, Dr Subramaniam advised pilgrims, heading to perform their umrah in Saudi Arabia, to not visit camel farms as well as consuming either camel's milk or meat.
