Between 7 and 10 January 2015, the National IHR Focal Point of Oman notified WHO of 2 additional cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection, including 1 death. Details of the case are as follows:
A 32-year-old male from Dakhelyia Region who developed symptoms on 27 December and was admitted to hospital on 5 January. The patient had comorbidities. He owned a farm and had frequent contact with camels, goats and sheep. The patient had no history of exposure to other known risk factors in the 14 days prior to the onset of symptoms. He was admitted to ICU but passed away on 7 January.

The Omani Ministry of Health announced Thursday the death of a patient infected with MERS coronavirus, the third death from the disease in the sultanate.
This is the first death recorded in the Sultanate for almost a year, the ministry said in a statement released by the official news agency ONA.
Oman is a country bordering Saudi Arabia, the first outbreak of coronavirus MERS and the most affected country, which recorded 830 cases of MERS coronavirus, including 358 deaths, since the appearance of the disease in 2012.
Cases of infection have been reported in several countries, including Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, the United States, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates or Iran, but the majority of those affected had traveled or worked in Saudi Arabia recently.
