    S. Korea reports 2 more MERS cases with 15 in total
    2015/05/31 10:12

    SEOUL, May 31 (Yonhap) -- ...

The Health Ministry revealed Sunday two more confirmed cases, identified only by the English initial of their family names N and O each, saying N was a patient housed at the same hospital ward as one shared by the country's first-ever patient, a 68-year-old male who caught the disease while traveling to the Middle East in mid-April.

O apparently contracted the disease while taking care of her mother at the hospital ward shared by the first patient, the ministry said. The mother is currently restricted to her house.

Out of the 13 other patients, 10 were reported in the hospital where the country's first MERS case was confirmed on May 20.

The hospital has temporarily closed its doors as many medical staff members have been placed in quarantine and are being closely monitored as they came in close contact with infected patients.

MERS-CoV: with 2 new confirmed cases, the total rises to 15

      SEOUL, May 31 (Yonhap) - ...
      ...
These people, both aged 35 and identified only by the first letter of their last name, N and O, tested positive according to the results of a DNA test. They have contracted the viral respiratory illness through contact with a 68 year old patient , the first case of MERS-CoV confirmed in the country. The latter is the source of a total of 12 cases reported so far.

N stayed in the same hospital department that the first patient and O visited this hospital service to go to the bedside of his mother.

The latter is currently in isolation at home.

According to the Ministry of Health, N and O have caught this disease between the 15 and 17 May. The first showed symptoms related to this outbreak on the 25 and the second on the 21.

They were not part of the list of people who had been quarantined at home. Health authorities have confirmed their infection through an epidemiological investigation that they are currently carrying out again with patients and family members and hospital staff where was interned the first case in the country.

MERS-infected South Koreans rise to 15, no tertiary infection reported

        English.news.cn 2015-05-31 10:51:55
        ...
Two men in their 30s, who had close contact with the patient zero, were confirmed positive for the deadly viral disease, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

The 14th case is a 35-year-old patient who was hospitalized at the same ward with the patient zero, and the 15th case is a 35- year-old man who visited her mother being accepted to the same ward with the first patient.

The 13th case was tested positive on Saturday as the 49-year- old man nursed his wife, the 12th infectee who had been hospitalized at the same ward with the patient zero.

No tertiary infection case has been reported yet as 14 others were all infected directly from the 68-year-old first patient.

Among them were 12 people who had contacts with the first patient at the same hospital ward and two medical staffs, including a doctor and a nurse who treated the patient zero.

Health Minister Moon Hyung-pyo said at a meeting with representatives of doctors, nurses and hospitals Sunday that the country would make all-out efforts to prevent the tertiary infection, apologizing for the spread of the MERS.

All the 14 infectees had close contact with the patient zero for three days from May 15. Given the latent period of two weeks, the number of infectees is not likely to rise further from June 3 unless any tertiary infection happens.
