  • HK experts to study Korea MERS cases

June 13, 2015 In view of fourth-generation infection cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome reported in Korea - in which the virus had been passed on three times, Hong Kong must remain cautious and closely monitor developments there, Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man said today.

Speaking to the media after attending a radio programme today, Dr Ko said two local experts had joined a World Health Organisation visit to Korea to study the MERS situation and will return to Hong Kong tomorrow. The Government will meet them as soon as possible to get the latest information.

He reiterated that no confirmed case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome has yet been identified in Hong Kong.

People who had visited Korea and suspect they may have caught the MERS virus should go straight to a public hospital to limit the risk of cross-infection, he said.
