Bangladeshi doctor dies from MERS -CoV

      January 22, 2014 ? News

MADINAH ? PENINSULA TIMES ? The Ministry of Health announced the death of a doctor from the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) corona virus in Riyadh. The announcement confirms the story published in Sabq newspaper, six days ago about the death of a Bangladeshi doctor in King Abdulaziz Hospital in Riyadh after contracting the virus.

The World Health Organization defines the virus as the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) caused the death of about 800 people around the world in 2003.

The ministry said in its statement that the case involved a 54-year-old Bangladeshi doctor working in Riyadh. After the doctor began to show symptoms of the disease he was given intensive medical care, and all precautionary measures were taken.

Sabq tried to get clarification about the case from relevant authorities in the hospital, but officials said they are not authorized to make any statements. The relevant authorities in the Health Ministry are responsible because samples of the virus are sent to labs and results are announced officially by the ministry.

Assistant-Secretary-General for Preventive Health Dr. Abdullah bin Mfreh Asiri said the number of corona virus infection cases in Saudi Arabia has increased to 141 so far, with 57 patients dieing from the virus.
