Yucatán ranks third in influenza infections in Mexico

MÉRIDA.- Yucatán passed in the last week from 21 to 54 infections by influenza , which represents an increase of 157 percent.

The figure means 11.4 percent of the total cases nationwide . With the 33 new positive cases registered at the cutoff of epidemiological week 50, the entity advanced from fifth to third nationally, between Nuevo León and Baja California.
Which states have the most cases of influenza?

At the end of the week mentioned (December 16), Quintana Roo reported 158 infections (33% of the national total) and Campeche, 8 infections (1.7%), with which the Yucatan Peninsula is the area of the country most affected by the respiratory disease that is concentrating 46.4 percent of the accumulated of the whole country.

At week 50, the cases of influenza are distributed in 23 states, in three of them deaths have already been registered.

On the other hand, Coahuila, Chihuahua, Durango, Michoacán, Oaxaca, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala and Zacatecas, remain without contagions.

In the accumulated of the Seasonal Influenza Season 2021-2022 to December 16, there are 474 confirmed cases, a figure that represents an increase of 54 percent , compared to last week when there were 308 infected. Quintana Roo, with 158 infected, Tabasco, with 76 infected and Yucatán, with 54 patients.

The Yucatan Peninsula becomes the region most affected by influenza, since about half of those infected live in this part of the Mexican Republic, revealed the federal Ministry of Health.

Even in Yucatán in just one week, the problem doubled and it became the second state with the highest incidence of contagion.

Although the epidemic problem is most notable in Quintana Roo, and to a lesser extent is Campeche.

15 days ago, Yucatán went from fifth to third nationally, by unseating Nuevo León and Baja California, and this week it is already in second place, beating Tabasco.

Therefore, the risk of a co-epidemic with Covid-19 in the Mexican Republic is increasingly high, and fortunately, for 10 weeks there have been no cases of dengue in the entity.

The deadly disease is present in 27 states, since this time Coahuila, Michoacán and Oaxaca are incorporated, and unfortunately, deaths have already been registered in three of them.

The five states that remain free of the deadly disease are Chihuahua, Durango, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala and Zacatecas.

In the accumulated of the Seasonal Influenza Season there are 705 confirmed cases, with an increase of 48.7 percent, compared to the previous week, whose sum was 474 infected.

The states of residence where most of the cases have been detected are Quintana Roo, with 210 infected, 29.8 percent, followed by Yucatán, with 109 infected, 15.5 percent, and Tabasco, with 92 positives, 13 percent. .

According to the statistics provided, Campeche is in ninth place, with 19 cases, 2.7 percent.

Two weeks ago, Yucatán went from 21 to 54 cases with an increase of 157.1 percent, and this time, the increase is 101.8 percent.

At 10 weeks from the start of the current season, most of the cases that occurred in the entity of the viral subtype A H3N2, and to a lesser extent, are influenza A and B.

The age groups most affected are those from 25 to 29 years old, followed by those from 20 to 24, and in third place are those from 30 to 34 years old.

Likewise, at the national level, the median age is 29 years, while the distribution by sex shows a predominance of women, 52 percent.

In the accumulated of the seasonal season, until today's information cutoff, 705 positive cases of influenza have been confirmed by laboratory, of these cases, 621 infected are due to influenza AH3N2, 88 percent; 43 infected are by influenza B, 6.1 percent, and 41 are by influenza A Not Subtypeable, six percent.

In Quintana Roo there are the three viral subtypes, the majority of type A H3N2, while in Yucatan, all are of the respective type.

Unfortunately, there are 15 deaths, nine in Quintana Roo, four in Baja California, and two in Tabasco.

Of the total of deaths, 10 were of type AH3N2, three of influenza A, and two of type B.
