    Mexico's health authorities confirm 53 deaths due to influenza

    Mexico, Jan. 12 (Prensa Latina) A total of 53 deaths due to influenza were reported this Sunday by the General Directorate of Epidemiology (DGE) of Mexico's Secretariat of Health, during the season 2019-2020. Despite being a relatively high figure, the DGE assures that the epidemics 'shows an expected behavior, with a gradual rise in confirmed cases as weeks passed by and it is slightly higher than the season 2017-2018.'

    This year, he explained in a report, a prevalence of virus subtype A (H3N2) is visible in the 48 percent of cases. Up to January 9, there were reported 53 deaths and 1,435 confirmed cases while the likely cases amount to 17,930 and the report includes 52,420 cases.

    The most affected states are Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Mexico City, Colima and Tlaxcala...
