The state of Sonora has recorded its sixth death this year as a result of novel Type A H1N1 influenza, Mexican newspapers report.
A 36-year-old man from Hermosillo, the state’s capitol, died at a hospital there, reported El Imparcial and El Diario de Sonora.
The man had not received the influenza vaccine, which includes protection against that strain of the virus, and had two other risk factors: He was a smoker and sought medical help late in the sickness.
So far this year in Sonora, there have been 274 reported cases of that flu, dubbed “swine flu” when it first emerged in Mexico in 2009.
