The elderly in Mexico City showed resistance to influenza A H1N1, so the total number of patients registered since the virus broke out, only 1.1 percent belonged to this segment of the population.
"This sector really did not have much problem, yes there were some older adults but not the most affected segment. But are people who generally have diabetes, hypertension or chronically ill, then are the people who need protection, "said Health Secretary of Mexico City, Francisco Osuna.
This unit started yesterday, along with the Institute for the Care of the Elderly in Mexico City, a vaccination campaign for people to seniors, which also was included nurses and social workers in contact with them.
The local official said despite the accusations and doubts about the effectiveness of the vaccine, have been "breaking the myth", demonstrating its benefit, identifying her only as a counterproductive effect on those who are allergic to eggs.
"We have had no adverse side effects, there have been, what is logical and normal in vaccines, which are low-grade fever or a very slight increase in temperature.
"Perhaps very mild body aches or headache, runny nose too, but nothing really serious and we are excited because people are believing in us," Osuna said after launching the campaign.
The official reported that on Monday more received 300 thousand doses of vaccine, of which 50 thousand and were used for application in the Subway, 60 thousand more will be saved as a reserve and the rest continue to apply to people in different places like markets public, free of charge.
