Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) estimates that at least a quarter of Mexico's population already infected the H1N1 influenza virus without manifestations of the disease.
This means that about 27 million Mexicans are immune to the new virus.
In this context, IMSS provides that the outbreak of influenza A/H1N1, which is expected in the first two months of the year, ie never in a moderate way. So the worst of the virus would have passed.
"What we have here in January is the circulation of the virus that will remain and do not think there is a very important rebound because much of the population was sick," he said in an interview with Dr. Victor Hugo Borja, spokesman for the IMSS subject of influenza.
The specialist, however, warned that to be more confident that the outbreak subsided, the portion of the population still susceptible to the virus have to be vaccinated.
