Mexico: Local Roman Catholic Church recommendedations
As a certified Catholic catechist I believe the New Zealand newspaper summary might have made a subtle error with significant impact. In the Mexico City Archdiocese instructions, those who are sick are excused (obliged) to stay away from mass, but may participate via radio. Those who are healthy and without other impediments, normally will go to mass.

Mexico, Apr 25 (EFE) .- A spokesman for the Archdiocese of Mexico Primada, Jos? de Jes?s Aguilar, reported that all the temples on Sunday suspended their masses in the city of Mexico, although it will be open for anyone wants to make personal prayer .
In a radio interview, said that the aim is to avoid large groups in the temples, which was an agreement between Cardinal Norberto Rivera and the health authority.
Explained that by the time the measure will apply only to the city of Mexico, but could be extended to other sites.
Invited to hear the Mass which will be transmitted through the radio, "not only to feel that they are fulfilling this duty," but especially for people who receive encouragement through prayer against the situation in the country .
Moreover, the Archdiocese said in a statement confirmed that Mexico's First suspending academic activities and training of the Conciliar Seminary until further notice as a preventive for students.
Also the Archbishop of Mexico decided to cancel all its activities which include a collection in the Basilica of Guadalupe, and in some parishes of the delegations Xochimilco, Tlalpan and Tl?huac.
JUAREZ -- Growing worries over the swine flu in Mexico have forced Archbishop Norberto Rivera Carrera to order the cancellation of all Sunday masses and church events at Catholic churches throughout the entire country, according to El Diario de El Paso.
The closure will affect all Catholic churches in Juarez, according to El Diario. According to the newspaper, reports that swine flu cases have been reported in Chihuahua, Chihuahua have not yet been confirmed by health officials in the state.
Churches will be open for individual prayer but it remains unclear how church officials will control any crowd traffic, according to El Diario.
The football games involving Pumas del U.N.A.M. and Aguilas del America, two Mexico City teams, will closed to the public. The game in Puebla between that city's team and Indios de Ciudad Juarez will be open to the public, El Diario confirmed.
The Mexican Government is considering closing down all public schools and buildings in the capital city and nearby cities for at least ten days, according to the ABC News.
This is a profound move. The psychological impact will come soon.
