First reported case of Influenza A (H1N1) in Montserrat

07 of December 2009, 18:14 Brades, Dec. 7 (Prensa Latina) Health authorities in the Caribbean island of Montserrat today confirmed the first case of influenza A (H1N1) reported in this territory.
A medical report revealed that the infected person is 13 years old, was treated at the Glendon Hospital and is now recovering well.
The virus on the island led to Health Ministry officials to declare an epidemiological alert, making a clinic designated to cover potential infection, among other measures.
At the same time strengthened the monitoring system and educational campaigns in order to prevent a rise in infections, said epidemiologist Dorothea Hazel.
However, recommendations to the public to remain calm and comply with sanitary requirements, while ensuring that they have the necessary medicines to deal with influenza A.
