FORT-DE-FRANCE, Martinique - Martinique has announced its first confirmed case of swine flu after an islander tested positive upon returning from the United States.
The Fort-de-France government said late Saturday that the man, who was not identified, had traveled to Las Vegas and passed through the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico.
A disease detection system at the French Caribbean island's airport noted the man's temperature upon his return. Lab results came back positive for the flu strain.
The government says he is in "satisfactory" condition and recovering at a hospital.
The World Health Organization says the flu has spread to 69 countries and infected nearly 22,000 people. Most of the cases have been mild, though 126 people have died.
