    H1N1 alert in the field school

    HAVANA, Cuba, June 11 (Mois?s Leonardo Rodr?guez, www.cubanet.org)-On May 31, a student of University Institute in pre Campo (IPUEC) Jos? Mart?, in Artemisa, Havana province, developed symptoms including persistent high fever, vomiting and joint pains, so the school administration decided to send him home, and shot the alarm about a possible outbreak of H1 N1 on campus.

    June 1 dawned without a doctor or school nurse. At the same time learned of the subsequent entry of the student sent home, he gave positive tests performed in clinics that Guanajay hospital.

    At 6 pm, when the attending physician arrived to the school, there were more than forty students with fever, vomiting and symptoms of a cold.

    In the morning the next day came more doctors, including specialists in epidemiology, nurses and municipal management officials from the Ministry of Education. In the afternoon the sick were isolated on the third floor of the building, in separate hostels for boys and girls.

    On June 4, no classes were held and sent to their homes to other students, remaining under observation and treatment about forty students.
