      Nassau Health Officials Confirm Fifth H1N1 Death

      The Nassau County Department of Health has announced the death of a young child due to H1N1 influenza, more commonly known as swine flu.

      Since the spring of 2009, when the new strain of swine flu was identified, four other Nassau residents have died from the flu, according to the health department. The NCDH didn't release the name of the child or any other identifying information.

      The CDC and Nassau Health Department say they encourage people to receive the H1N1 vaccine. Currently, the vaccine is only available to the "priority groups" established by CDC.

      household contacts and caregivers of children 6 months old or younger

      health care personnel

      children and young adults between 6 months and 24 years old

      people 25 to 64 years old with pre-existing health conditions that could be complicated by infection

      Information on vaccination centers from priority groups are available on Nassau County's website.

        03 of December 2009, 09:51 Nassau, Dec 3 (PL) Bahamian health authorities today reported three new cases of influenza A (H1N1) in the country, after several weeks without registering an increase in the number of infected by the disease .

        According to Health Ministry adviser Carey Baldwin are two high school teens and a student primary school St Andrew, in Beijing.

        So far, patients evolved favorably after treatment in case of pandemic. With the confirmation of new infections, the government asked the public to exercise extreme hygiene in homes, workplaces and schools.

        It called on all citizens of the country to receive the flu vaccine, which is offered free of charge at all health of the nation, as another preventative measure against disease.

        Earlier this week, the holder of the sector, Hubert Minnis, announced that the Bahamas will take to acquire the drug against influenza because of the fall of 50 per cent of world production of the drug.

        According to the minister, is expected to receive the first dose of Tamiflu in January.

        Official statistics indicate that the Caribbean territory, with over 307 thousand 451 inhabitants, recorded 44 cases confirmed with the flu and four deaths.
