San Diego sailor found to have swine flu

    By Steve Liewer

    May 1, 2009, 6:50 p.m.

A San Diego-based sailor has been diagnosed with swine flu, a Navy official said Friday afternoon.

The 23-year-old patient sought treatment at the San Diego Naval Medical Center several days ago after feeling ill, the official said. He was sent home to recover because his symptoms were mild, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention later confirmed he had the N1A1 strain of swine flu.

The sailor works for a shore-based command at the San Diego Naval Base at 32nd Street, the official said. The source also said several other sailors in the San Diego area have reported flu-like symptoms, but none has been confirmed with swine flu.

"So far, there has been no reason to be overly concerned," said the official, who requested anonymity because he had not been cleared to discuss flu-related issues.
May your days be steeped in love, and warmed with joy.
