In the C?rdoba-Orizaba region, acute respiratory infections increase in the next three months up to 40%, ie 600 will go from 8 000 to 12 000 cases per month, revealed the Public Health Coordinator Delegation IMSS in Southern Veracruz, Alfonso Mancillas Ort?z.
While 50 people per month are treated for complications of respiratory infections, mainly pneumonia and bronchopneumonia, the most affected being children under five years and the population over 60 years.
He explained that most of the suffering could be prevented if everyone was really responsible for the care of their health and opt for simple measures such as increasing consumption of foods rich in vitamin C, not exposed to air currents and hygiene measures have .
"It is estimated that just over 40% increased respiratory infections among the elderly and infants under five years old until March, a period that falls squarely in the winter and thus the temperature is lower," warned Mancillas Ortiz.
He recalled that self-medication to treat respiratory diseases or other diseases is contraindicated, as they run the risk of aggravating the disease and is usually consumed drugs unsuitable for causing disease resistance in microorganisms.
The official insisted IMSS population intensify the preventive and protective measures, such as not exposed to sudden changes in temperature, increase consumption of foods rich in vitamin C, avoid cold drafts, not to go to closed areas attended and kept dry.
