    Growing SARS deaths in Puebla
    By Monica Franco
thursday, 01 of 2009 of octubre

The number of deaths from SARS is higher than deaths due to influenza A H1N1, warned the secretary general of Section 1 of the National Union of Social Security (SNTSS), Reyes Hernandez Rosas, saying that these variations are the result of that relaxation of society health measures.

He cited that in the last three weeks have treated 103 people suffering from atypical pneumonia in the St. Alexander Hospital, which sees a change in the patterns of the epidemic.

It emerged that highlight this week were allegedly killed 19 people in San Alejandro for possible influenza A H1N1.

Reyes Hernandez would not confirm the figure, when referring to taking a census is to update the deaths from this cause.

However, the union leader said this week that 51 people have been hospitalized for SARS, the previous week were 36, and between 13 and 19 September, 16 cases of this type.

Reyes Hern?ndez se abstuvo de confirmar la cifra, al referir que se est? levantando un censo para actualizar los fallecimientos por esta causa.

Could this be due to other seasonal strains?

I am thinking that the majority of these cases are H1N1. Does anyone else agree?

Re: Growing atypical pneumonia cases in Puebla

My reading on this is that most of these cases are likely H1N1 - my translation (from my high school Spanish) seems to be that they are saying there are more atypical pneumonia cases than just the confirmed H1N1 cases (i.e. the others are unconfirmed).

It is certainly believable as we head toward winter in Mexico, and also now with the return of students to class, that the number of H1N1 cases will be increasing weekly.

If we start hearing about death clusters there or multiple dead HCW (or the indentification of something unusual such as actual SARS - very unlikely), then this becomes reason to panic. Not yet.

However, since the collective bargaining agreement protects employees, wishing to remain in the old offices may do so without any retaliation, but will be responsible for their own risk, as the SSA security disclaims remain in office Paseo Grande.

The state official left open the possibility of a continued upward impact, as there are still outstanding samples at the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (Indre), where 645 thousand samples have been processed, no new deaths have been identified as a result the virus.

In Puebla, according to data from Arango Garcia, the disease has attacked some 310 adults and 273 children, 52 percent are male. For health jurisdiction, the number 6, located in this capital city, is the most affected with 345 cases. After the number 3 of Zacapoaxtla, with 77, and 5 of Huejotzingo, with 43.

99% likelihood it's swine flu (H1N1) surging again...let's watch the CFR...if it goes up like India, and we learn the victims are not getting Tamiflu quickly enough, then it bodes worse to come for the lesser developed nations.

Absolutely. Post #1 implies 19 deaths this week alone, perhaps among 103 patients total. If so that would be a minimum CFR of about 18%. If we are truly talking about pneumonia then antibiotics, more than anti-virals, are critical.
