    • The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development activated the emergency operation and immediately sent official personnel to take samples that were sent to the official laboratories of the National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica), located in Palo Alto, City of Mexico.
    • In Mexico, 1,758 million chickens are produced each year, so that the impact of this event is 0.003 percent of production, so the supply of poultry products is guaranteed.
    • The finding corresponds to an existing strain in some regions of the country since 2012, and counter-epidemic measures have already been applied to deactivate the outbreak, the affected farm was quarantined and the immediate slaughter of 70,000 birds from the ships that showed positive cases was ordered.
Through epidemiological surveillance actions, which it permanently carries out, the National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica) confirmed the presence of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza AH7N3 (HPAI) in two commercial poultry production buildings from Coahuila.

The agency of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that laboratory tests carried out by technicians from the United States-Mexico Commission for the Prevention of Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Other Exotic Animal Diseases (CPA) confirmed that the outbreak corresponds to the existing strain in some regions of Mexico since 2012.

The technicians of the General Directorate of Animal Health quickly applied the necessary anti-epidemic measures to deactivate the outbreak as soon as possible, quarantined the affected farm and ordered the immediate slaughter of 70,000 birds from the two ships that had positive cases, located in the municipality. General Cepeda, Coahuila.

Senasica received the report of clinical suspicion of avian influenza on Thursday afternoon, immediately launched the emergency and prevention operation to contain the outbreak, for which it sent technicians to the area to take samples in the commercial production units and of family poultry farms located within a radius of five kilometers around the affected farm, with the purpose of measuring the dimension of the outbreak.

Early Friday morning, the PCR tests applied in the Senasica laboratories revealed the presence of Avian Influenza AH7N3 and at this time work is being done on viral isolation for definitive confirmation and proceeding to make the corresponding reports to the World Organization for Animal Health ( OIE, for its acronym in French) and to trading partners.

Among the measures adopted by Senasica, the immediate start of a vaccination campaign for birds located on family and commercial farms in neighboring communities stands out.

He also issued the instruction to reinforce the supervision tasks at the Verification and Inspection Points (PVI) located in Coahuila, in order to prevent the movement of live birds, their products and by-products without official control.

Faced with the contingency, Senasica authorities, in coordination with the Rural Development Secretariat of the Government of the state of Coahuila, summoned the region's poultry farmers to an urgent meeting for tomorrow, Sunday, April 24, with the purpose of reviewing the results of the sampling carried out. by the CPA experts and agree on an action plan aimed at preventing the spread of the outbreak.

    Guaranteed supply of poultry products

It is important to point out that the affected houses correspond to hens with fertile egg laying, that is, the one used for the reproduction of chicks.
In Mexico, just over 298 million chickens are produced per cycle, which means that our country produces 1,758 million of these animals per year, since there are 5.9 annual production cycles, so that the impact of this event is 0.003 percent of production, so it does not represent a risk for the national supply of food.

In addition, according to data from the National Union of Poultry Farmers, the Comarca Lagunera has a participation in the national production of chicken meat of eight percent.

Agriculture reiterated that this virus is exclusive to birds, so there is no risk to humans, and urged poultry farmers in the area to promptly notify any suspicion and reinforce biosecurity levels on their farms.

Senasica called on poultry producers to increase biosecurity measures on their farms and immediately report any suspicion of the presence of the disease, for which it makes various communication channels available to producers and the general public: by telephone at 800 751 2100, which works 24 hours a day, 365 days, or from Monday to Friday at 55 5905 1000 Exts. 51236, 51242 and 51243.

Via email, you can write to sive.dgsa@senasica.gob.mx or gestioncpa.dgsa@senasica.gob.mx ; They can also report through the AVISE application, available for iOS and Android devices.

Detect cases of avian flu on farms in Coahuila and Durango
At least 6 farms in Gómez Palacio with a population of 48,000 birds are under supervision; the operative is on its way to prevent it from growing out
David Enriquez | The Sun of Durango

Derived from the detection of Avian Influenza in a commercial farm located in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila on April 21, which caused 90% of deaths in an inventory of 230 thousand birds, the contagion not transmissible to humans, has extended to the region Lagunera currently affecting 6 farms in the Duranguense territory, where a quarantine in the transfer of animals, products, by-products and their remainders was applied as a security measure, informed the Secretary of Agriculture, Farming and Rural Development of the state Manuel Sánchez Zamudio.

However, he clarified that by getting it ready there is no risk of depletion of both meat and huevo; and that with the purpose of detecting possible existing cases of Avian Influenza (AI) of High Pathogenicity AH7N3 in Coahuila, the National Health Service, Inocuidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria (Senasica), established an epidemiological surveillance, for what it will take samples of 100% of the poultry production units of the entity and the Comarca Lagunera, which also includes part of Durango....

Senasica reports all farms inspected in Coahuila and Durango due to avian influenza outbreak
A total of 887 thousand 672 birds died between disease and slaughter
THE CENTURY OF TORREÓN, Tuesday, May 17, 2022, updated at 9:24 p.m. 🕚

The National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica) reported that it concluded the review of one hundred percent of the poultry farms located in the region of Durango and Coahuila, where the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza AH7N3 occurred.

The report specified that a total of 887,672 birds from the states of Coahuila and Durango died between disease and slaughter.

The agency of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development explained that samples were taken in 298 poultry production units.

He explained that there was suspicion of disease in 48 farms in the north of the country - three of them located in Chihuahua - and through laboratory analysis the presence was confirmed in 20 units, of which 10 in Coahuila and 10 in Durango.

With these actions, more than 35 million birds were protected in the region, a large part of them of high genetic value and, currently, cleaning, disinfection and sanitary vacuum work is being carried out on the contaminated farms to later allow their repopulation, he said in a communicated the Senasica.

It was indicated that at this time experts from the United States-Mexico Commission for the Prevention of Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Other Exotic Animal Diseases (CPA) of the Senasica carry out weekly samplings of all the poultry production units of Coahuila and Durango, with the aim of in order to verify that there is no longer any circulation of the virus in the region and lift, where appropriate, the internal quarantine established by the Agriculture agency.

The National Service stressed that, even though the outbreak is under control at the moment, it will activate the National Emergency Device for Animal Health (Dinesa) to intensify epidemiological surveillance throughout the national territory and prevent the spread of the H7N3 virus, present in several states in the center of the country since 2012, the source of the current northern outbreak.

He specified that the implementation of the device will also allow the application of preventive measures in the face of the threat posed by the waterfowl migration season that occurs between the months of October and March, since the ducks and geese that travel south during the winter they can bring with them various strains of avian influenza virus that do not exist in the national territory, such as the highly pathogenic H5N1 that is currently spreading through the United States and has caused the death of nearly 40 million poultry in that country. country.
