Epidemiological comments
Following the epidemiological surveillance activities carried out by the Veterinary Services of Mexico, avian influenza subtype H5N2 has been identified ; the intravenous pathogenicity test revealed that it corresponds to a low pathogenic avian influenza virus. The virus was isolated in a commercial farm of laying hens in the State of Sinaloa. The corresponding epidemiological investigation was initiated, including sampling in 4 industrial poultry farms and in 33 backyard poultry farms located in the 10-km zone around the outbreak, with a total of 720 samples of blood serum and tracheal and cloacal swabs, without detecting evidence of virus circulation. The production unit has been quarantined and a sanitary barrier has been set up. A humanely slaughter of birds programme will be launched even though it is a virus of low pathogenicity. Note by the OIE Animal Health Information Department: H5 and H7 avian influenza in its low pathogenic form in poultry is a notifiable disease as per Chapter 10.4. on avian influenza of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code (2015).

Over half a million laying hens be sacrificed in southern Sinaloa due to infection of H5N2 avian flu that has spread in the area, announced Juan Guerra Ochoa, Secretary of Agriculture of the State.
The official said the company Sinaloa name El Rosario SPR "Egg Champion" is quarantined due to illness.
"The outbreak was detected on 21 July and 24 July, the company was in quarantine, unable to leave or enter any bird, nor products, be slaughtered 512 000 birds.
He explained that the borders of Sinaloa were closed to the import and export of products to prevent the virus from spreading, but said that there is no risk of being transferred to other farms.
"It is given a final quarantine, that the next step is the slaughter of all animals and not let anything in or out so that it will not spread to other places," he said.
Guerra Ochoa explained that the virus apparently came from the State of Jalisco, while Wednesday will hold a meeting with the head of SENASICA, Enrique Sanchez Cruz, to address the issue.

Detect bird flu outbreak in the municipality of Rosario, Sinaloa
CULIAC?N (La Silla Rota) .- An outbreak of bird flu H5 type was detected on a farm in the municipality of Rosario, so the sacrifice of 500 000 birds and implementation of quarantine set out with the intention to stop the spread of the virus, he announced the Secretary of Agriculture and Fisheries Development of the State, Juan Guerra Ochoa.
He noted that it is presumed that the virus was admitted to the company through the acquisition of some tools, such as cardboard or crates coming from the state of Jalisco, by the owner of that farm.
With the implementation of containment measures that were deployed, it seeks to prevent its spread to other poultry farms that have in the state. The state official said that 500 000 birds that were on that farm where the bird flu virus emerged, had to be culled and quarantine was ordered, under continuous surveillance so that it is not going to spread.
He said investigations establish that the farm owner has another in Jalisco, where cardboard and cages moved, so it is assumed that in them, the virus is transported.
