MEXICO CITY, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Northern Mexican state of Sinaloa on Friday ordered a five-day closure of all educational institutions after 400 pupils began suffering A/H1N1 flu symptoms.

At least 50 schools in Sinaloa's capital of Culiacan had reported the virus, and the typical school had 40 sick pupils, Florentio Castro Lopez, head of education in the state, told media.

Three universities and 1,407 schools in the state will all be closed. This will keep 266,000 students and 14,360 teachers out at home and away from possible infections, Castro said.

The state will also deliver 300 cleaning items during the weekend and 800 on Monday to schools in its jurisdiction. The anti-flu measure means the loss of only two full days of schooling, because Sept. 15 and 16 are public holidays in that state, marking Mexico's Independence Day.
