Monkeypox in Mexico: no recorded cases of the lethal clade 1b variant
As of the second week of August, 53 cases of Mpox clade II have been recorded in Mexico, with the majority of those affected being men.

MEXICO.- The Ministry of Health of Mexico recently reported that no infections of clade 1b of the most lethal and rapidly spreading variant of Mpox (monkeypox) have been detected in the country. Instead, the confirmed cases belong to the clade II variant, identified in 2022.
The World Health Organization (WHO) issued a health emergency on August 14, urging countries to strengthen their epidemiological surveillance systems for the detection of this virus. In Mexico, the laboratories of the National Network of Public Health Laboratories are in charge of carrying out this work.
