Diplomats and officials say the World Health Organization intends to shorten its annual meeting because of the swine flu outbreak.
Three officials involved in planning the World Health Assembly say it is likely to be shortened to five days instead of the usual 10. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.
WHO's 193 member states must approve the change.
The meeting is supposed to run May 18-27. WHO spokeswoman Janet Voute said Thursday that an official decision on shortening it has yet to be made.
Health ministries around the world are busy trying to prevent a pandemic of the swine flu virus that has infected almost 1,900 people in 23 countries.
