Update as of 12 February 2009
Following the epidemiological investigations carried out in the second outbreak and within the one-km-radius area around it, virological tests were made in the only farm located within this zone (a farm with 4,600 broiler chickens).
The results of the tests made in the farm located within the one-km-radius restriction area around the second outbreak were negative (PCR H5 negative).
After the epidemiological investigations carried out following the two outbreaks of low pathogenic avian influenza H5N3, no other additional investigations have been undertaken in the farms located outside the restriction zone set up around the two outbreaks. Since no adverse results have been obtained in the only poultry farm located within the restriction area set up around the two outbreaks, the investigations are considered closed.
Cleaning and disinfection activities are ongoing in both outbreaks.

Note by the OIE Animal Health Information Department: H5 and H7 avian influenza in its low pathogenic form in poultry is a notifiable disease as per Chapter 10.4. on avian influenza of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code (2008).
