As determined by the State Health Secretariat of Rio de Janeiro, SMS (Municipal Health Secretariat) announced this week the use of the insecticide malathion in combating the proliferation of the mosquito that transmits dengue. In the opinion of health authorities, the product is more effective in fighting the disease. Initially, the CCZ (Center for Zoonosis Control) of the new city has been applying insecticide only in the service block within buildings inhabited by people with suspected dengue.

The SMS said, however, that in case of epidemic disease in the application of malathion in the city will replace the service provided by the car smoke, for the two products can not be used simultaneously. The vet CCZ Rafael Carvalho Resende explained that the Aedes aegypti mosquito is resistant to the insecticide that was being applied, then a determination made by the State Department of Health

    - Malathion is more effective than longer smoke because it is dispersed in air, when actually kills mosquitoes, and reach a larger area - the vet said, ensuring that when used properly, malathion is not harmful to health and not affect the environment, and eliminates other insects.

The CCZ guides residents about the need to avoid exposure of animals, collect items of clothing hanging on clotheslines and change the water of the animals after the use of insecticide malathion within the home. The city health officials stressed, however, that the most effective way to reduce the risk of dengue fever is to avoid the accumulation of containers with standing water, because this environment is the environment for the proliferation of the mosquito that transmits the disease. About 80% of the foci are located inside buildings.

Continuing with the preventive measures against dengue in Resende, SMS, through the Department of Health Education, held next week three more lectures in communities to guide the residents about the care that should be adopted in order to reduce the risks proliferation of disease outbreaks.

The lectures will be held at Old Surubi (Tuesday, in the Catholic Church), Engineer Steps (Wednesday at College Hall Augusto de Carvalho) and Alliance Garden (Thursday). The three meetings will start at 19h.

The coordinator of the Health Sector in Education, Cristina Rosy, also reported that on Thursday will be heavy containers that can collect standing water collected by students during the "Holiday in the Playground." Promoted by the city, the program takes place from 23 to 27, with the participation of approximately one thousand students. The poles of the contest winners will compete against the dengue sweepstakes prizes, such as bicycle, camera, backpack and watch.

In the 1st of February at 9am in the auditorium of the House of Culture Foundation Macedo Miranda will be promoted further training for city employees. Coordination is the SMS and will aim to prepare at least one server in each office, foundation and municipal agency, in order to eliminate possible sources of the mosquito in their respective offices.
