  • Health ministry: Gaza suffers anew a pharmaceutical crisis

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Palestinian health ministry in Gaza warned that the pharmaceutical crisis came to the surface again due to an acute shortage of medicines and medical consumables.

In a report issued by its department of pharmacy, the numbers of medical supplies that ran out in the stores of the health ministry's facilities until the end of 2012 were 160 types of medicines and 442 medical disposables.

According to the report, the shortage lies in the medical items used for surgical and intensive care purposes and in the units of dialysis and organ transplant.

The department of pharmacy also warned that the heart surgeries especially the cardiac catheterization almost came to a halt because of this crisis, noting that vital medicines needed by patients with blood problems also started to run out.

The crisis has affected noticeably and seriously the health of mothers, fetuses and children, it added.

In another context, the health ministry said that four patients infected with the H1N1 flu, including two women, were treated after receiving medical care in Gaza hospitals.

Director of the primary care department at the health ministry Fouad Issawi stated on Monday that the ministry routinely conducted H1N1 tests for some patients who were suspected to have complications from the flue.
