Swine flu: A ninth case found in Israel

      25/05/2009- [17:29] - AFP

JERUSALEM, May 25, 2009 (AFP) - A ninth case found swine flu was confirmed in Israel, said Monday the Israeli Ministry of Health.

The virus was detected and confirmed in a 42-year-old man who was returning from a trip to the United States, said a statement published on the website of the Ministry of Health.

The patient, whose life is not in danger, was quarantined at the Tel Hashomer hospital in Tel Aviv, said public radio. This new case brings to nine the number of patients with swine influenza in Israel.

The Israeli government recently raised the alert level to swine influenza degree 5, the penultimate, and ordered that the drugs are purchased abroad to cover the possible need for 30% of the population in case spread of the disease.

Currently, the stock of available drugs would treat the 16 to 17% of the population. The maximum alert includes a ban on gatherings, closing schools, universities and places of entertainment such as cinemas and theaters.
