    Two more deaths from H1N1
    Published on January 12, 2010

TWO MORE people have died from the H1N1 flu bringing the total death toll in Cyprus to eight, six in the government-controlled areas and two in the Turkish-occupied north.

One of the deaths which occurred on Sunday night was that of a 65-year-old man who was being treated for an infection of the lower respiratory system and who had been diagnosed with H1N1.

He belonged to a high risk group and had a medical history of chronic health problems. He died in the intensive care unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

The other death occurred in the intensive care unit of the Limassol General Hospital. The deceased was a 40-year-old woman who did not belong to any of the high risk groups and nor did she have a medical history with any significant complications.

The fifth and final stage of the immunisation programme for H1N1 begins on January 13 when the vaccine will be made available to persons over the age of 65 who are not in high risk groups. With the commencement of the fifth stage of the programme H1N1 immunisation will be available to all persons of all ages in the Republic of Cyprus.
