  • 3 deaths from H1N1 virus reported in Armenia

H1N1 virus has claimed the first death in Armenia, Director at the National Center of Disease Control and Prevention Artavazd Vanyan told a news conference on Friday.
In his words, the woman who dies at hospital suffered numerous diseases.
In his words, the Influenza A type H1N1 virus is spread throughout Armenia which is the case in neighboring countries and European states and conditioned mostly with seasonal factors. Vanyan, however, noted that there was no need for shutting down the borders as a preventive measure to restrict the spread of the virus.
According to him, as of today 1251 people have applied for medical aid, while the number was 967 last year, 693 people receive stationary treatment at medical institutions.
The target groups at higher risk for catching H1N1 influenza include pregnant women, children under 7 and elderly people.

    Armenia reports second H1N1-related death

Acute respiratory infectious diseases have a tendency of growing in Armenia, the Health Ministry said in a statement.
As of Monday, 1,080 people with respiratory infections sought medical treatment in the country, with 837 people (95% of whom are children) receiving stationary treatment.
The ministry says it continues controlling the situation in kindergartens and schools. On 14 January alone, 499 children with acute respiratory infection symptoms were sent back home from educational institutions.
The experts of the ministry are touring medical facilities these days to get first-hand information and to discuss the ongoing measures with the experts and directors of the facilities.
Meantime, the ministry reported the second influenza type A subtype H1N1-related death in Armenia.
?A 62-year-old man who died in a hospital from severe cardiovascular failure was also tested positive for H1N1 subtype,? the ministry said, adding the man had applied for medical treatment too late.
The first death of H1N1 virus was registered in Armenia earlier in January.

Patient dies from influenza A-related complications in Armenia

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 5, ARMENPRESS. A patient in Armenia has died in what appears to be influenza A-related complications, the healthcare ministry said, adding that an autopsy will conclude the final cause.
“Based on daily monitoring, as of February 4 the stabilization of the situation related to acute respiratory viruses is continuing. According to confirmed laboratory analyses, Influenza A subtype H1N1 and H3N2 are circulating in Armenia. Despite the stabilization of the situation there are still seriously ill patients in hospitals,” the ministry said, adding that chronic diseases and failure to seek medical attention in time are contributing factors in deterioration of their health condition.
“Unfortunately a fatal case has been recorded in the past two days,” the healthcare ministry said, adding that the patient had influenza A. The healthcare ministry did not specify the subtype.
According to the healthcare ministry, 781 patients – 92,8% of whom are children – are hospitalized in the country.
