    DEWS WEEKLY EPIDEMIOLOGICAL REPORT
    August 13, 2012 WER-32(6th Yr)

    SUMMARY:
     This report includes surveillance data from 4th July to 10th August 2012.
     Out of 312 functional Sentinel sites(SS), all 312 (100%) have sent their reports in Week-32 of 2012;
     Out of total 274,261 Consultations recorded in week-32 of 2012, 90,745 (33.1%) consultations were reported due
    to DEWS target diseases.
     Main causes of consultations this week are Acute Respiratory Infections/ARI (13.6%) and Acute Diarrheal
    Diseases/ADD (17.6%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.
     52 deaths caused due to Pneumonia, Diarrheal diseases and Meningitis/Severely ill children, so that 19 deaths due
    to pneumonia, 20 deaths due to diarrheal diseases and 13 deaths reported due to Meningitis and Severely Ill
    Children.
     In this reporting week, three Measles outbreaks reported and investigated in Laghman, Zabul and Urozgan
    provinces. No other outbreaks have been reported in this reporting week.

    Summary
    - This report includes surveillance data from 17th July to 24th August 2012.
    - Out of 312 functional Sentinel sites(SS), all 312 (100%) have sent their reports in Week-34 of 2012;
    - Out of total 118,800 Consultations recorded in week-34 of 2012, 39,440 (33.2%) consultations were reported due to DEWS target diseases.
    - Main causes of consultations this week are Acute Respiratory Infections/ARI (12.6%) and Acute Diarrheal Diseases/ADD (18.9%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.
    - 43 deaths caused due to Pneumonia, Diarrheal diseases and Meningitis/Severely ill children, so that 21 deaths due
    to pneumonia, 13 deaths due to diarrheal diseases and 9 deaths reported due to Meningitis and Severely Ill
    Children.
    - In this reporting week, no outbreaks have been reported/ investigated.

      SUMMARY:
      This report includes surveillance data from 22nd to 28th December 2012.
      Out of 330 functional Sentinel sites(SS), all 330 (100%) have sent their reports in Week-52 of 2012;
      Out of total 298,749 Consultations recorded in week-52 of 2012, 105,697 (35.4%) consultations were reported due to
      DEWS target diseases.
      Main causes of consultations this week are Acute Respiratory Infections/ARI (29.3%) and Acute Diarrheal
      Diseases/ADD (5.4%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.
      69 deaths caused due to Pneumonia, Diarrheal diseases and Meningitis/Severely ill children, so that 54 deaths due to
      pneumonia, 3 deaths due to diarrheal diseases and 12 deaths reported due to Meningitis and Severely Ill Children.

      In this reporting week, two Measles outbreak was reported from Kandahar province, one Tinea outbreak in Hirat and
      one pertussis outbreak updated in Nusai district of Badakhshan province.

        Out of 337 functional Sentinel sites(SS), all 337 (100%) have sent their reports in Week-02 of 2013;
        Out of total 317,123 Consultations (138579Male, 178544Female) recorded in week-02 of 2013, 120,205
        (56293Males, 63912Females) consultations were reported due to DEWS target diseases.
        Main causes of consultations this week are Acute Respiratory Infections/ARI (32.6%) and Acute Diarrheal
        Diseases/ADD (4.9%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.
        73 deaths caused due to Pneumonia, Diarrheal diseases and Meningitis/Severely ill children, so that 58(40Male,
        18Female) deaths due to pneumonia, 6 (3Male, 3Female) deaths due to diarrheal diseases and 9(3 Male, 6 Female)
        deaths reported due to Meningitis and Severely Ill Children.

          This report includes surveillance data from 9th to 15th February 2013.
          Out of 339 functional Sentinel sites(SS), all 339 (100%) have sent their reports in Week-07 of 2013;
          Out of total 316,887 Consultations (137597Male, 179290 Female) recorded in week-07 of 2013, 113,423
          (54363Males, 59060 Females) consultations were reported due to DEWS target diseases.
          Main causes of consultations this week are Acute Respiratory Infections/ARI (30.5%) and Acute Diarrheal
          Diseases/ADD (4.7%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.
          59 deaths caused due to Pneumonia, Diarrheal diseases and Meningitis/Severely ill children, so that 53(28Male, 25
          Female) deaths due to pneumonia and 6(1 Male, 5 Female) deaths reported due to Meningitis and Severely Ill
          children.

          In this reporting week, one Measles outbreak was reported from Charbolak district of Balkh province, one CCHF
          outbreak reported from Lashkargah district of Helmand province and one food poisoning outbreak report received

            SUMMARY:
             This report includes surveillance data from 13th April to 19th April 2013.
             Out of 347 functional Sentinel sites (SS), all 347 (100%) have sent their reports in Week-16 of 2013.
             Out of total 327,455 consultations (139,273 Male, 188,182 Female) recorded in week-16 of 2013, 105,250
            (50,726 Male, 54,524 Female) consultations were reported due to DEWS target diseases.
             Main causes of consultations this week are Acute Respiratory Infections/ARI (22.2%) and Acute Diarrheal
            Diseases/ADD (9%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.
            40 (20 Male, 20 Female) deaths caused due to Pneumonia, Diarrheal diseases and Meningitis/Severely ill
            children, so 20 deaths (11 Male, 9 Female) caused by Pneumonia, 4 deaths (3 Male, 1 Female) caused by
            diarrheal diseases and 16 deaths (6 Male, 10 Female) were caused by Meningitis/severely ill children.

             In this reporting week, Suspected Measles Outbreak reported from Mandozi district of Khost province, Tania
            Capitis Outbreak reported from Narang district of Kunar province, Suspected Measles Outbreak reported

                Epidemiological week- 23
                 Suspected chicken pox Outbreak: reported from Khatib abad School of Suripol district, Saripul
                province on May 30/2013, the team investigated the area on June 01/2013. During the investigation there
                were 41 suspected chicken pox cases, it was clinical confirm outbreak, , the team collected lab samples
                and send them to CPHL and the cases treated and health education session conducted in surrounding
                villages, the active surveillance has been established for investigation of further cases.
                 Suspected CCHF Outbreak: reported from Payen Gang village of 7 district of municipality , Herat
                province on June 01/2013, the team investigated the area on June 02/2013 , the Patient has been admitted
                at regional hospital . During the investigation there were 01 suspected CCHF cases, it was clinical
                confirm outbreak with following clinical manifestation: Fever, headache, body pain, vaginal bleeding,
                bloody diarrhea, hematemesis and Epistaxis, a female of 15yrs old and the team collected lab samples
                and send them to CPHL and the cases treated and health education session conducted to his family, the
                active surveillance has been established for investigation of further cases.
                 Suspected scabies Outbreak: reported from Central jail of Khost of Khost province on June o1 /2013, the
                team investigated the area on June 02/2013. During the investigation there were 25 suspected scabies cases, it
                was clinical confirm outbreak, All of them were over five year old and base on sex all of them were male cases
                and the cases treated and health education session conducted in Jail , the active surveillance has been
                established for investigation of further cases.
                Epidemiological week- 24
                 Suspected chicken pox Outbreak: reported from Bolaghin village of Bolaghin high school of Kohband
                district, Kapisa province on June 08/2013, the team investigated the area on June 09/2013. During the
                investigation there were 14 suspected chicken pox cases, it was clinical confirm outbreak, , the team
                collected lab samples and send them to CPHL and the cases treated and health education session
                conducted in surrounding villages, the active surveillance has been established for investigation of further
                cases.
                 Rumor cholera Outbreak: reported from Roysang clinic of Payan-e-Bagh.village of Kohmard district,
                Bamyan province on June 10/2013, the team investigated the area on the same day. During the
                investigation there were no suspected cholera cases, it was rumor not an outbreak.
                 Suspected Measles Outbreak: reported from Lawsind village of Shigal district, Kunar province on
                June09/2013, the team investigated the area on June 10/2013. During the investigation there were 7
                suspected measles cases, it was clinical confirm outbreak, there were 02 cases under five year old and
                five cases of over five year old and base on sex 4 female and 3 male cases with no death case , the
                team collected lab samples and send them to CPHL and the cases treated . Vaccination campaign was
                conducted, Vita A supplements was distributed to 350 children and health education session conducted in
                surrounding villages and the active surveillance has been established for investigation of further cases.
                 Suspected scabies Outbreak: reported from Cheshmai hesar village of Argo district of Badakhshan
                province on June 06/2013, the team investigated the area on June 10/2013. During the investigation there
                were 35 suspected scabies cases, it was clinical confirm outbreak, the cases treated and health education
                session conducted in surrounding villages, the active surveillance has been established for investigation
                of further cases.
                 Suspected Pertussis Outbreak: reported from Sarlola village of Khash district, Badakhshan province
                on June09/2013, the team investigated the area on June 10/2013. During the investigation there were 34
                suspected Pertussis cases, it was clinical confirm outbreak with no death case, the team collected lab
                samples and send them to CPHL and the cases treated. Vaccination campaign was conducted and health
                education session conducted in surrounding villages, the active surveillance has been established for
                investigation of further cases.
                 Suspected CCHF Outbreak: reported from Kala Gard village Guzara district of , Herat province on
                June 07/2013, the team investigated the area on June 08/2013 , the Patient has been admitted at regional
                hospital . During the investigation there was one suspected CCHF case, it was clinical confirm outbreak
                with following clinical manifestation: Fever, headache, body pain, Gum bleeding and Epistaxis, a male of
                45yrs old and the team collected lab samples and send them to CPHL and the cases treated and health
                education session conducted to his family, the active surveillance has been established for investigation
                of further cases.
                 Suspected CCHF Outbreak: reported from Sawristan village Injil district of Herat province on June
                08/2013, the team investigated the area on June 09/2013 , the Patient has been admitted at regional
                hospital . During the investigation there was one suspected CCHF case, it was clinical confirm outbreak
                with following clinical manifestation: Fever, headache, body pain, Gum bleeding and Epistaxis, a boy of
                20yrs old and the team collected lab samples and send them to CPHL and the cases treated and health
                education session conducted to his family, the active surveillance has been established for investigation
                of further cases.
                 Suspected CCHF Outbreak: reported from Deh Shikh village Pashton Zarghan district of , Herat
                province on June 07/2013, the team investigated the area on June 08/2013 , the Patient has been admitted
                at regional hospital . During the investigation there was one suspected CCHF case, it was clinical confirm
                outbreak with following clinical manifestation: Fever, headache, body pain, Gum bleeding, ecchymosis
                and Epistaxis, a male of 50yrs old who is a farmer and the team collected lab samples and send them to
                CPHL and the cases treated and health education session conducted to his family, the active surveillance
                has been established for investigation of further cases.
                 Suspected CCHF Outbreak: reported from Musaferan village Obeh district of , Herat province on
                June 10/2013, the team investigated the area on June 11/2013 , the Patient has been admitted at regional
                hospital . During the investigation there was one suspected CCHF case, it was clinical confirm outbreak
                with following clinical manifestation Fever, headache, body pain and asthma, a male of 47yrs old who
                take care of animal and the team collected lab samples and send them to CPHL and the cases treated and health education session conducted to his family, the active surveillance has been established for
                investigation of further cases.
                 Suspected CCHF Outbreak: reported from center of Shindand district of , Herat province on June
                10/2013, the team investigated the area on June 11/2013 , the Patient has been admitted at regional
                hospital . During the investigation there was one suspected CCHF cases, it was clinical confirm outbreak
                with following clinical manifestation, which hemorrhagic sign and symptoms including Hemoptysis,
                Ecchymosed, Gum bleeding and Epistaxis a male of 60yrs old who is shopkeeper and the team collected
                lab samples and send them to CPHL and the cases treated and health education session conducted to his
                family, the active surveillance has been established for investigation of further cases.

                   This report includes surveillance data from 20th July to 26th July 2013.
                   Out of 353 functional Sentinel sites (SS), 351 (99.4%) have sent their reports in Week-30 of 2013.
                   Out of total 316,895 consultations (137,360 Male, 179,535 Female) recorded in week-30 of 2013, (33.3%)
                  or 105,671 (51,177 Male, 54,494 Female) consultations were reported due to DEWS target diseases.
                   Main causes of consultations this week are Acute Respiratory Infections/ARI (14.1%) and Acute Diarrheal
                  Diseases/ADD (17.8%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.
                   46 (25 Male, 21 Female) deaths caused due to Pneumonia, Diarrheal diseases and Meningitis/Severely ill
                  children, so 20 deaths (11 Male, 9 Female) caused by Pneumonia, 19 deaths (10 Male, 9 Female) caused
                  by diarrheal diseases and 7 deaths (4 Male, 3 Female) were caused by Meningitis/severely ill children.
                   In this reporting week, Suspected Viral Hepatitis Outbreak reported from Kabul province, Suspected
                  Cholera Outbreak reported from Paktika and Nangarhar provinces, AWD with Bloody Outbreak reported
                  from Bamyan province, two Suspected CCHF Outbreak reported from Herat province, and Suspected food
                  poisoning Outbreak and Suspected Pertussis Outbreak reported from Kandahar province .

                  DEWS Data in Epidemiological Week-30 of 2013:
                  Ut of total 316,895 clients recorded in week-30 of
                  2013, 12.1% (38216) of consultations were reported
                  due to cough and cold and 2.0% (6453) of
                  consultations was reported due to pneumonia. In the same
                  reporting period, 17.8% or 56,527 events were reported due to
                  diarrheal illnesses (13.3% due to Acute Watery Diarrhea,
                  2.7% due to Bloody Diarrhea and 1.8% due to acute watery
                  diarrhea with dehydration). In comparison with previous week
                  (W29 of 2013) the percentage of ARI disease has slightly
                  increased by 0.1% to 14.1%, whereas the percentage of Acute
                  Diarrheal disease has also increased by 0.1% to 17.8%. These
                  variations could be occurred due to changes in temperature
                  /weather during the reporting week.Figure-2 above shows the
                  percentages of DEWS target diseases by gender in week-30 of 2013.

                    DEWS WEEKLY EPIDEMIOLOGICAL REPORT

                    Summary:
                     This report includes surveillance data from 28 September to 4 October 2013.
                     Out of 361 functional Sentinel sites (SS), 356 (98.6%) have submitted reports for Week-40 of 2013.
                     Out of a total of 322,690 consultations (136,315 male, 186,375 female) recorded in Week-40 of 2013, 34.2 % or 110,263 (52,847 male, 57,416 female) consultations were reported due to DEWS target diseases.
                     Main causes of consultations this week were Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) (19.9%) and Acute Diarrheal Diseases (ADD) (13.1%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.
                     42 (21 male, 21 female) deaths resulted from Pneumonia, Diarrheal Diseases and Meningitis/Severely Ill Children, which includes 16 deaths (9 male, 7 female) caused by Pneumonia, 8 deaths (5 male, 3 female) caused by Diarrheal Diseases and 18 deaths (7 male, 11 female) caused by Meningitis/Severely Ill Children.
                     In this reporting week, an Update Suspected Cholera Outbreak and a Suspected CCHF Outbreak reported from Herat province and a Cholera Outbreak and a Suspected CCHF Outbreak reported from Kandahar province.

                    DEWS Data in Epidemiological Week-40 of 2013:
                    Out of a total of 322,690 clients recorded in week-40 of
                    2013, 17.1% (55,035) of consultations were reported due
                    to Cough and Cold and 2.8% (8,879) of consultations
                    was reported due to Pneumonia. In the same reporting
                    period, 13.1% or 42,302 events were reported due to
                    diarrheal illnesses (9.7% due to Acute Watery Diarrhea,
                    2.4% due to Bloody Diarrhea and 1% due to Acute
                    Watery Diarrhea with Dehydration). In comparison with
                    the previous week (W39 of 2013) the percentage of ARI
                    disease has increased by 1% to 19.9%, and the
                    percentage of Acute Diarrheal Disease has decreased by
                    0.3% to 13.1%. These variations could be due to changes
                    in temperature /weather during the reporting week.
                    Figure-2 (right) shows the percentages of DEWS target
                    diseases by gender in week-40 of 2013.

                    In the epidemiological week-40 a total of 63,914 events of ARI were reported. 24.4 % of total clients less than 5 years of age were Cough & Cold patients and 13.7% were among the age group 5 years and over. The percentage of C&C (<5 years) consultations in week-30, in comparison with the percentage of C&C in week-40 of 2013, increased by 7.6%, whereas in case of 5 years and above increased by 3.9% to 13.7% in this reporting week. The trend of ARI diseases in last 11 weeks can be read in Table-3. The percentages of consultations on Pneumonia cases of age group less than 5 years increased by 1.5% in last 11 weeks, whereas the percentage of age group 5 years and over increased by 0.4% to 1.3% .

                    Figure-4 above shows the percentages of diarrheal diseases (Acute Watery Diarrhea, Bloody Diarrhea and Acute Watery
                    Diarrhea with Dehydration) from week-30 to week-40 of 2013 from total clients, Acute Watery Diarrhea among children less than five years of age has decreased from 25.6% in week-30 to 19.1% in the reporting week, whereas Acute Watery Diarrhea among age group 5 years and above has been decreased by 2.1% to 5.3 % (Table-4). Bloody Diarrhea in age group less than 5 years decreased by 0.3% in last 11 weeks, while in case of age group 5 years and above also has been decreased by 0.3%. Acute Watery Diarrhea with Dehydration in age group less than 5 years show an decrease by 1.6% in last 11 weeks, while in case of five years and above AWDwD decreased by 0.2% to 0.7% in last 11 weeks.

                    In the epidemiologic week-40 of 2013, a total of 151 suspected cases of Meningitis/Severely Ill Child were reported from all regions and the highest percentage was recorded in Central East, North and North East regions. In the same reporting week, from all regions, 1857 Malaria consultations were reported by Sentinel Sites and the highest percentages of Malaria cases were reported from East, South East and South regions with 2.4%, 0.7% and 0.4% respectively. Out of the total clients, 1767 cases or 0.5% at the national level were reported to be suspected Typhoid Fever and the highest percentages of Typhoid Fever cases were reported from South, East and South East and East regions with 1%, 0.9% and 0.8%respectively.

                    Update Suspected Cholera Outbreak: Reported from Sayed village of Khulm district Balkh province on Sept 15, 2013. An investigation was conducted on the same day. The health team investigated the affected area and they found 370 cases of suspected cholera cases. There were 182 cases of under five years old and 188 cases of over five years old .Based on sex, there were 202 female and 168 male cases with one deaths associated . It was a clinically confirmed outbreak .The team collected the specimens and sent them to CPHL. The patients were treated and health education and hygiene sessions were conducted for caregivers and surrounding villages in addition to also the wells chlorination campaign. The outbreak is controlled.
                    Suspected Measles Outbreak: Reported from baghka Mangal Abad village of Gardiz district, Paktya province on Sept 21 /2013, the team investigated the area on Sept22/2013, Vaccination coverage is around 40%. During the investigation there were 25 suspected measles cases ,it was clinical confirm, There were 15 cases of under five years old and 3 cases of over five years old .Based on sex, there were 7 female and 11 male cases with no deaths associated. The team collected lab samples and send them to CPHL, the cases treated. Vaccination campaign was conducted, Vita A supplements was distributed and health education session conducted in surrounding villages, the active surveillance has been established for investigation of further cases.
                    Rumor of suspected Rabies Outbreak: Reported from Charahi Qumber of district five of Kabul province on Sept 21/2013, the team investigated the area on the same day. During the investigation there was one case of suspected dog bit, and it was a rumor not an outbreak.
                    Cholera Outbreak: Reported from Dahan-e-kamaq village of Injil district Herat province on Sept 23, 2013. An investigation was conducted on the same day. The health team investigated the affected area and they found 23 cases of cholera cases. There were no cases of under five years old and 23 cases of over five years old .Based on sex, there were 9 female and 14 male cases with no deaths associated. It was a clinically and lab confirmed outbreak .The team collected the specimens and sent them to CPHL and the result was positive. The patients were treated and health education and hygiene sessions were conducted for caregivers and surrounding villages in addition to also the wells chlorination campaign. Active surveillance system is in place for investigation of further cases.
                    Suspected CCHF Outbreak: Reported from Karte Khursan of district four of Mazar sharif city Balkh province on Sept 24, 2013.The team investigated the case on the following day .The patient has been admitted at the regional hospital. During the investigation, there was one suspected CCHF case and field investigation has been perform .It was a clinically confirmed outbreak and the patient was 63 years old man .He had contact with animal. The team collected lab samples and send them to CPHL .The case was treated and health education session was conducted for his family members and other .The team is investigating for further cases.

The health team investigated the affected area and they found 22 cases of suspected cholera cases. There were no case of under five years old and 22 cases of over five years old .Based on sex, there were 10 female and 12 male cases with no deaths associated. It was a clinically confirmed outbreak .The team collected the specimens and sent them to CPHL. The patients were treated and health education and hygiene sessions were conducted for caregivers and surrounding villages in addition to also the wells chlorination campaign. Active surveillance system is in place for investigation of further cases.

The team investigated the case on the same day .The patient has been admitted at the regional hospital. During the investigation, there was one suspected CCHF case and field investigation has been performed. The patient was 25 years old man his married and has one child. He is slaughter and has occupational contact with animal blood. The team collected lab samples and send them to CPHL .The case was treated and health education session was conducted for his family members and other .The team is investigating for further cases.
                    Suspected Cholera Outbreak: Reported from Kariz Village Shorabak district Kandahar province on Sept 27, 2013. The team investigated the case on Sept 28, 2013. The health team investigated the affected area and they found 120 cases of suspected cholera cases and (the majority of patients belongs to border police). There were one case of under five years old and 119 cases of over five years old.Based on sex, there were 2 female and 118 male cases with no deaths associated. Result is pending. The patients were treated and health education and hygiene sessions were conducted for caregivers in addition to also the wells chlorination campaign. Active surveillance system is in place for investigation of further cases.

                      DEWS WEEKLY EPIDEMIOLOGICAL REPORT

                      Summary:
                       This report includes surveillance data from 26 October to 1 November 2013.  Out of 364 functional Sentinel sites (SS), 359 (98.6%) have submitted reports for Week-44 of 2013.
                       Out of a total of 303,220 consultations (129,974 male, 173,246 female) recorded in Week-44 of 2013, 30.1 % or 91,366 (43,734 male, 47,632 female) consultations were reported due to DEWS target diseases.
                       Main causes of consultations this week were Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) (22.8%) and Acute Diarrheal Diseases (ADD) (9.2%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.
                       44 (23 male, 21 female) deaths resulted from Pneumonia, Diarrheal Diseases and Meningitis/Severely Ill Children, which includes 28 deaths (17 male, 11 female) caused by Pneumonia, 5 deaths (1 male, 4 female) caused by Diarrheal Diseases and 11 deaths (5 male, 6 female) caused by Meningitis/Severely Ill Children.
                       In this reporting week, an Update Cholera Outbreak reported from Nuristan province, a Suspected Measles Outbreak reported from Kabul province and a Suspected CCHF Outbreak reported from Herat province.

                      DEWS Data in Epidemiological Week-44 of
                      2013:
                      Out of a total of 303,220 clients recorded in week-
                      44 of 2013, 19.5% (59,217) of consultations were
                      reported due to Cough and Cold and 3.3% (10,156)
                      of consultations was reported due to Pneumonia. In
                      the same reporting period, 9.2% or 28,124 events
                      were reported due to diarrheal illnesses (6.7% due
                      to Acute Watery Diarrhea, 1.8% due to Bloody
                      Diarrhea and 0.7% due to Acute Watery Diarrhea
                      with Dehydration). In comparison with the previous
                      week (W43 of 2013) the percentage of ARI disease
                      has increased by 1.2% to 22.8%, and the percentage
                      of Acute Diarrheal Disease has decreased by 1.6%
                      to 9.2%. These variations could be due to changes
                      in temperature /weather during the reporting week.
                      Figure-2 (right) shows the percentages of DEWS target diseases by gender in week-44 of 2013.

                      Percentage of ARI by Weeks and by Age Groups:
                      In the epidemiological week-44 a total of 69,373 events of ARI were reported. 27.2 % of total clients less than 5 years of age were Cough & Cold patients and 15.8% were among the age group 5 years and over. The percentage of C&C (<5 years) consultations in week-34, in comparison with the percentage of C&C in week-44 of 2013, increased by 8.5%, whereas in case of 5 years and above increased by 4.9% to 15.8% in this reporting week. The trend of ARI diseases in last 11 weeks can be read in Table-3. The percentages of consultations on Pneumonia cases of age group less than 5 years increased by 2.7% in last 11 weeks, whereas the percentage of age group 5 years and over increased by 0.6% to 1.6% .

During the investigation there were 10 suspected measles cases ,it was clinical confirm, There were 8 cases of under five years old and 2 cases of over five years old .Based on sex, there were 4 female and 6 male cases with no deaths associated. The team collected lab samples and send them to CPHL, the cases treated. Vaccination campaign was conducted, Vita A supplements was distributed and health education session conducted in surrounding villages, the active surveillance has been established for investigation of further cases.

                      Scabies Outbreak: reported from Jawzjan prison of Sheberghan city, Jawzjan province on Oct 20/2013, the team investigated the area on the same day. During the investigation there were 27 Scabies cases, it was clinical confirm outbreak and the cases treated and health education session conducted to them, the active surveillance has been established for investigation of further cases.

                      Epidemiological week- 44

                      Update Cholera Outbreak: Reported from Kaligal village of Want waigal district Nuristan province on Oct 6, 2013. An investigation was conducted from Oct 7/2013 and up to Oct 29 we have close follow up. The health team investigated the affected area and they found 232 cases of cholera cases there were 86 cases of under five years old and 145 cases of over five years old .Based on sex, there were 132 female and 100 male cases with no deaths associated. He is slaughter some animal during Eid days and had contact with animal blood. The team collected lab samples and send them to CPHL .The case was treated and health education session was conducted for his family members and other .The team is investigating for further cases.

                        Summary:
                         This report includes surveillance data from 30 November to 6 December 2013.
                         Out of 367 functional Sentinel sites (SS), 364 (99.1%) have submitted reports for Week-49 of 2013.
                         Out of a total of 328,930 consultations (141,844 male, 187,086 female) recorded in Week-49 of 2013, 32.5 % or
                        106,839 (51,139 male, 55,700 female) consultations were reported due to DEWS target diseases.
                         Main causes of consultations this week were Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) (27.7%) and Acute Diarrheal
                        Diseases (ADD) (7%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.
                        59 (34 male, 25 female) deaths resulted from Pneumonia, Diarrheal Diseases and Meningitis/Severely Ill Children,
                        which includes 41 deaths (24 male, 17 female) caused by Pneumonia, 7 deaths (5 male, 2 female) caused by Diarrheal
                        Diseases and 11 deaths (5 male, 6 female) caused by Meningitis/Severely Ill Children.

                         In this reporting week, a Suspected Cholera Outbreak, a Suspected Measles Outbreak and a Suspected CCHF reported
                        from Kandahar province.

                        Watery Diarrhea, 1.6% due to Bloody Diarrhea and
                        0.4% due to Acute Watery Diarrhea with
                        Dehydration). In comparison with the previous week
                        (W48 of 2013) the percentage of ARI disease has
                        increased by 0.7% to 27.7%, and the percentage of
                        Acute Diarrheal Disease has decreased by 0.3% to 7%.
                        These variations could be due to changes in
                        temperature /weather during the reporting week.

                        case of 5 years and above increased by 5.8% to 19% in this reporting week. The trend of ARI diseases in last 11 weeks
                        can be read in Table-3. The percentages of consultations on Pneumonia cases of age group less than 5 years increased by
                        4.4% in last 11 weeks, whereas the percentage of age group 5 years and over increased by 0.8% to 2% .

                        Scabies Outbreak: Reported from Nahr-e-Shahi custody center of Balkh province on Nov 26/2013, the
                        team investigated the area on Nov 28/2013. During the investigation the team found 330 suspect cases
                        of scabies, the patients had itching, skin rash and restless. It was clinical confirm outbreak, meanwhile
                        on the same day proper health education messages delivered by investigation team to prisoners.
                        Suspected Mumps outbreak: Reported from Sarhawza village,Sarhawza district of Paktika province
                        on Nov 26/2013, the team investigated the area on Nov 27/2013 and visited the affected area and found 4 cases: 3 cases aged over five (2 Male, 1 Female) and 1 under five Male with having clinical
                        manifestation of Suspected Mumps (Fever, current bilateral or unilateral parotids seen) which have been
                        discovered in field through active case finding. It was clinical confirm outbreak and health education
                        sessions are conducted in the area.

                        Epidemiological week- 49

                        Suspected Cholera Outbreak: Reported from Kajor Village Shahwalikot district of Kandahar province
                        on Nov 25/2013, the team investigated the area on Nov 26/2013. During the investigation 164 suspected
                        Cholera cases where found, 37 cases aged under five (16 Female, 21 male) and 127 over five (78
                        Male.49 Female), the team collected lab samples and sent them to CPHL for confirmation. It was
                        clinical confirm outbreak. The patients were treated and health educations have been done by team.
                        Suspected Measles Outbreak: Reported from Balakarz Village Kandahar city district # 03, of Kandahar
                        province on Nov 30 /2013, the team investigated the area on Dec 01/2013. During the investigation there
                        were 13 suspected Measles cases, 5 cases aged under five (3 Female, 2 male) and 8 Over five (2 Male, 6
                        Female), with no deaths associated, the team collected lab samples and sent it to CPHL for confirmation.
                        It was clinical confirm outbreak. The cases were treated and health education sessions were conducted in
                        surrounding area.
                        Suspected CCHF: Reported from Choni village Khakriz District, of Kandahar province on Dec
                        3/2013. The team investigated the case on the same day. During the investigation, there was one CCHF
                        case and field investigation has been performed. The patients were 16 women. It was clinical confirm
                        outbreak, the patient developed fever, headache, vaginal bleeding, epistaxis and body pain when she was
                        admitted to hospital. The team collected lab samples and sent it to CPHL .The cases were treated and
                        health education session was conducted for his family members and other .The team is investigating the
                        area and close contacts for further cases.

                          Summary:
                           This report includes surveillance data from 7 December to 13 December 2013.
                           Out of 367 functional Sentinel sites (SS), 365 (99.4%) have submitted reports for Week-50 of 2013.
                           Out of a total of 331,302 consultations (143,128 male, 188,174 female) recorded in Week-50 of 2013, 33.6 % or 111,457 (52,986 male, 58,471 female) consultations were reported due to DEWS target diseases.
                           Main causes of consultations this week were Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) (29.1%) and Acute Diarrheal Diseases (ADD) (6.8%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.
                          58 (37 male, 21 female) deaths resulted from Pneumonia, Diarrheal Diseases and Meningitis/Severely Ill Children, which includes 40 deaths (27 male, 13 female) caused by Pneumonia, 9 deaths (3 male, 6 female) caused by Diarrheal Diseases and 9 deaths (7 male, 2 female) caused by Meningitis/Severely Ill Children.
