    Rawalpindi

The incidence of viral pneumonias has markedly increased as more than 100 patients of the disease reached the allied hospitals in the first 15 days of the current month.

According to the Young Doctors Association, a total of 118 patients of the disease reached the three teaching hospitals in town till August 15 of which 27 died and in most of the cases the cause of death was late presentation of patients to the hospitals. The major dilemma is unavailability of medicine named Oseltamivir, not only in government hospitals but also in private hospitals, pharmacies and chemists, YDA Punjab Chairman Dr. Muhammad Haroon informed The News .

Re: Rawalpindi: 27 die of viral pneumonias in 15 days

Two points. First, a bit of background. Apparently, this is a large city, larger than Juarez (16 H1N1 deaths in a month) or Lviv (112 suspected H1N1 deaths in two months), so 27 deaths is not out of the question for H1N1.

The population of Rawalpindi is approximately 1,991,656[7] according to the 2006 census which includes many people who come from Punjab villages looking for work in the city.

Secondly, note the mention of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) in the article. The only pneumonia that Tamiflu treats is that caused by influenza, either H1N1 or H5N1, not other viral pneumonias, indicating that flu is at least suspected, if not confirmed.

IMO, the article looks like it is written to intentionally avoid using the words "H1N1", "swine flu", "flu", influenza", "Tamflu", etc.
