Re: Israeli army lays off dozens of its soldiers for bird flu

Given that this is an Arabic to English machine translation, I'm thinking H1N1 as well.

The article is citing Israel's Channel 10 news, whose website is:

אתר התוכן של ערוץ רשת 13. חדשות 13, האח הגדול, משחקי השף, הישרדות ועוד תוכניות רשת, דיגיטל, אוכל, VOD, שידור חי והתכנים הכי מעניינים בישראל

I am currently searching for the original article.

I got it; it's just ordinary (no testing) ILI:

הם נבדקו במרפאת הבסיס ומצבם הוגדר קל, אך הוחלט לשחררם לביתם. They tested their clinic base and set easy, but it was decided to release them to their home.

Thank you alert for following up on this.

We need to be sure to post the correct title on our threads even if the title is incorrect on the original article. And we need to be especially careful with articles that we have machine translated.

It is widely known that the Arabic papers interchange the words "swine" and "bird" when describing possible/suspected/confirmed swine flu infections.

For more details on this translation issue, see:

It is not clear, IMO, whether the error lies in the Youm7 paper itself using the name of the wrong flu, or in the Google Translator in mistranslating the Arabic word for flu, or in some cases, perhaps a bit of both.
