UAE lifts ban on live bird import

Dubai: A ban on importing live birds and their products from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait was lifted.
The decision that was announced yesterday by Dr Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahd, Minister of Environment and Water, stated that any shipment that contains live or slaughtered poultry and their products will only be allowed entry to the UAE after obtaining a prior import licence from the Ministry of Environment and Water.
The decision also stated that any imported shipment licence has to have an expiry date of two weeks from the date of issuance and fresh or heat processed food products licence applicants have to have an officially valid veterinary certificate that proves the shipment to be infection- free.
Certificates
The veterinary certificates have to be issued a month prior to the licence application. The decision also stated that applicants importing chicken shipments have to present a veterinary health licence from an International Health Organisation accredited laboratory for animal health, and the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation that proves the bird flu free status of the shipment, along with other contagious diseases.
These certificates have to have an issuance date of two months prior to the import licence application.
The decision also stated that live birds have to be quarantined in special locations for no less than 28 days from the date of entry to the UAE, where all the required tests and medical procedures have to be carried out.
