JORDAN, FAO SIGN AGREEMENT TO FIGHT BIRD FLU IN MIDDLE EAST

AMMAN, July 21 (NNN-PETRA) -- Jordan's Ministry of Agriculture and the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) have signed an agreement to strengthen the regional coordination network to fight bird flu in the Middle East.

The project aims to help Middle Eastern countries fight bird flu in the region and limit its impact on the poultry sector and rural economy as well as protecting the human population from contracting the disease.

The project also aims to enable member countries of the network implement strategies to control the disease through unified plans and increase preparations and emergency procedures to deal with the disease.

The project agreement was signed Sunday by Minister of Agriculture Muzahim Al Muhaisen and FAO Representative in Amman Ahmad Al Minyawi.

عمان -بترا- وقعت وزارة الزراعة ومنظمة الاغذية والزراعة للامم المتحدة (الفاو) امس وثيقة المشروع الاقليمي لتقوية الشبكة التنسيقية لمرض انفلونزا الطيور عالي الضراوة في منطقة الشرق الاوسط.

Oman - Petra - The Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) yesterday, close regional project to strengthen the coordinating network for bird flu high intensity in the Middle East.

ويهدف المشروع الذي وقع وثيقته وزير الزراعة المهندس مزاحم المحيسن وممثل الفاو في عمان الدكتور احمد المنياوي الى مساعدة الدول في اجراءات المكافحة والسيطرة على مرض انفلونزا الطيور في منطقة الشرق الاوسط والحد من الخسائر التي يتعرض لها قطاع الدواجن والاقتصاد الريفي ووقاية الانسان من اعراض المرض واسبابه.

The aim of the project, which was signed and its Minister of Agriculture Muzahim Al-Muhaisin engineer and FAO representative in Amman, Dr. Ahmed Almnyaoi to assist States in control measures and control of bird flu in the Middle East and reduce the losses suffered by the poultry sector and the rural economy and prevent rights of symptoms and causes.

كما يهدف الى تمكين الدول المشاركة في الشبكة التنسيقية لمنطقة الشرق الاوسط من تنفيذ استراتيجيات التحكم بمرض انفلونزا الطيور عالي الضراوة من خلال الخطط الموحدة والمتفق عليها في المنطقة وعالمياً من خلال زيادة الاستعدادات واجراءات الطوارىء وتقديم الخبرات الفنية اللازمة اضافة الى تنفيذ الخطط الفاعلة لمكافحة هذا المرض في الدول المنتشر فيها ودرء انتشاره في الدول الاخرى وتعزيز قدرات التحكم والاشراف على مرض انفلونزا الطيور في المنطقة من خلال تطور المختبرات وتحسين آداء العاملين فيها.

It also aims at enabling countries participating in the network coordination with the Middle East region to implement strategies to control bird flu disease through high-intensity standard and plans agreed upon in the region and globally through increased preparations and procedures of emergency and provide the necessary technical expertise in addition to the active implementation of plans to combat this disease in the States Widespread and prevent its spread in other countries and strengthen the capacities of control and supervision of bird flu in the region through the development of laboratories and improve the performance of their workers.

وأعرب المهندس المحيسن عن تقديره لدور منظمة الاغذية والزراعة للامم المتحدة في دعم جهود الوزارة لتطوير

القطاع الزراعي وتحقيق التنمية المنشودة من خلال تقديم العون والخبرات الفنية لتنفيذ المشروعات الانمائية.

Engineer Al-Muhaisin He expressed appreciation for the role of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in supporting the efforts of the ministry to develop the agricultural sector and achieve the desired development through providing aid and expertise to implement development projects.

يذكر ان مساهمة الفاو في المشاريع التي تنفذ حالياً في المملكة تقدر بحوالي مليون دولار.

It is noteworthy that the contribution of FAO to projects implemented in the Kingdom is currently estimated at about one million dollars.
