Tests revealed that the fowl were infected with the same strain of bird flu, H5N1, which ravaged coops across northern Israel and led to the culling of hundreds of thousands of birds last winter...

JERUSALEM, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Israel detected an outbreak of bird flu in the Shfela region, about 20 kilometers west of Jerusalem, the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said in a statement on Wednesday.

The pathogenic avian influenza was found in turkey coops in the village of Tzora which housed 10,500 birds.

This is the third outbreak of bird flu in Israel since January, with the two previous cases being discovered in the north of the country in late September.

Following the latest detection, the ministry quarantined all chicken coops within 10 kilometers of the infected ones and began monitoring them...

Avian flu was discovered in Kibbutz Ein Zurim

Avian influenza type H5N1 was discovered in a turkey coop in Kibbutz Ein Zurim in the Lakish region. The farm has three infected buildings, inhabited by 15,000 poultry. All the chicken coops within a range of up to 10 km from the chicken coop in question are under quarantine. The veterinary services of the Ministry of Agriculture continue to actively monitor all the chicken farms in the area.

In order to prevent the spread of the disease, the Ministry of Agriculture operates in accordance with the international work procedures of the World Organization for Animal Health (WoAH) regarding the treatment of bird flu. The Ministry of Agriculture calls on the breeders of ornamental birds and poultry, as well as free-range chickens, to keep the birds inside buildings, and to prevent them from wandering in the open, thus reducing the risk of infection from wild birds during the migration season.

As I recall, last week an outbreak was diagnosed in Kibbutz Tsera in the Yehuda lowlands. The ministry is expected to finish the treatment at the epicenter of the wasp outbreak today. In the month of September 2023, there were two cases of avian influenza in Binat Chai in Moshav Sde Ya'akov and Lulul in Kibbutz Elonim that were treated by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Since March 2006, when cases of bird flu were discovered in Kibbutz Holit and Ein HaSlosha in the south of Israel and in Moshav Sde Moshe in the Lakish region, cases of bird flu have been discovered almost every year. Last year, Israel was hit by 11 cases of bird flu, starting in November of last year (2022) in Kibbutz Shlouch, and then in the months between November and January 2023 in the same year, additional cases of bird flu were discovered in Beit Hirot, Beit Halevi, in Moshav Beit Hirot, in Moshav Beit Halevi, in Moshav Kfar Monesh, in Kibbutz Mishmar Hasharon, in Kibbutz Hatzor, in Kibbutz Ein Zurim, in Kibbutz Magal and in Moshav Beer Tovia (three centers) handled by the Ministry of Agriculture.
