Alireza Akbar Shahi, director of health prevention at the Iranian Veterinary Organization, announced on Monday, the execution of 25 million and 140 thousand birds due to the spread of bird flu.

According to the news agency "Fars" Iran, Akbar Shahi said during a news conference, the poultry farms "Bayada" saw the execution of 19 million and 40 thousand chickens across Iran.

He added that Iran is witnessing a severe outbreak of the H5N1 avian influenza virus, which caused the closure of more than 30% of poultry farms "Bayada", and forced Iran to import eggs from abroad to balance the market and reduce prices.

Nasser Nabibor, head of the chicken and egg association in Tehran, said last February that Iran imported 50 truckloads of eggs from Turkey every week.

According to the World Health Organization, the seasonal influenza virus, which first appeared in 2004, particularly in Asia, has 3 to 5 million serious cases worldwide each year, more than half a million deaths and serious economic consequences.
